Chance another Asian male! -Cornell, NYU, JHU, UPenn

Ethnicity - Chinese <- screwed?
Sex - Male <- double screwed!

-Very competitive public high school in Colorado; ~2000 students?
-School has IB, but I'm not doing it; taking most of the IB classes though, but not any tests or the diploma
-Fairly rigorous courses, not the most rigorous

GPA Unweighted: 3.75
GPA Weighted: 4.545
Class rank: Top 10%? If yes, then it's barely. If not, it's almost =</p>

ACT:
Math - 35
Science - 35
Reading - 36
English - 35
Writing - 33/10
Composite - 35

SATs are considerably lower, 2100ish. Not self-reporting it, but it will show up on my transcript.

Extracurriculars:

National Science Bowl - 9-12 - 4th place nationals last year; A captain this year
Chinese Club - 10-12 - senior member, been there since its inception
Local Chinese School - 11-12 - Volunteer as TA
Local Orchestra - 10-12 - Violinist; pretty bad at it D:

A couple other EC's that aren't horribly noteworthy (stuff I did 9-10th grade), they'll just be on the app as part of a list.

AP Tests:

AP Scholar with Distinction

US History - 4
Calculus BC - 5
World History - 4
Chemistry - 5
Chinese Language - 5
French Language - 3 <- ouch; not self-reporting that, I don't think it'll show up

Going to take this year
Microeconomics
Macroeconomics
Biology
Physics C

Essays:

Personal essay is decent. Average/slightly above average I'd say, nothing amazing.
Supplement essays for common app: I'd say they're pretty good.

Recommendations:

Counselor: Meh. Don't really know her at all, so it's just going to be one of those generic letters I guess.
Teacher 1: 11th grade LA teacher, should be pretty good
Teacher 2: 11th grade Biology teacher, should be very good
**I don't actually get to see any of the letters, so I'm guestimating here.

Schools, chance me!:

Columbia College ED - Rejected

NYU Stern
Johns Hopkins
Cornell CALS - AEM
UPenn - Wharton or Arts and Sciences, haven't decided

Cheers!

-bump bump-

bump bump bump

Heh heh, it can't be too bad being male--don't most colleges have a deficit of males?

You're competitive--probably in at Stern and JHU.

NYU Stern - Match
Johns Hopkins -Match/Slight Reach
Cornell CALS - AEM - Slight Reach / Reach
UPenn - Wharton or Arts and Sciences, haven't decided -Reach/Higher Reach

Yeah, but Asian males usually spells death xD

i agree on the asian male thing xD

if your SAT scores show up on ur transcript anyways, i would suggest self-reporting it just so theres no confusion (e.g. they might think you're trying to "hide" it)

report the 3 on french language. it shows youre competent at another language; no reason to hide a 3. (i mean come on, how many french speaking chinese ppl are there in this world? xD)

AEM is unbelievably competitive. i believe i heard that theres only 90 people selected per year? if you really want to go to cornell, try a similar major (just not AEM x[)

gpa is okay, i guess. its good enough taht it wont significantly hurt you, but its not good enough to help you stand out.

with that in mind....
stern: probably in.....but if you need FA, dont expect much
JHU: match/slight reach. nice school pick, you have a decent chance of getting in
cornell AEM: rejected.
cornell...any easier major: match/slight reach. good chance
u penn: if wharton, rejected. u dont seem to have any business oriented ECs. other majors: reach

The reason I want to go to Cornell though is because of the AEM major haha. It sounds like an incredible one, and I'd be thrilled if I got in. I do know they only have 95 seats per year though, so I know there's a good chance I'll get declined. Oh well, never hurts to try.

I also ran outta room for AP tests on the Common App. I don't wanna add a line in Additional Info. just to report a 3 on a test =S

ehh maybe stern and hopkins, but not cornell or penn

Meh, I settled on applying School of Engineering for UPenn. Whee.
