Chance, anyone?

Another chance thread. I've read a lot of these and they started to annoy me, but now I suddenly feel a strong urge to see what others will respond with. I'd really appreciate anyone's input. I'm already planning to apply, but I'd just like to know what people thought and have some idea of where to place my hopes.

Violin:

Lead in student-run community play 11th
Actor in Traveling Shakespeare Troupe (summers before 11th and 12th grade, will be working there next summer)

Community Service:
None, really... I have participated in a cleanup of Rock Creek Park, though, at the end of 10th grade, but that lasted about 3 or 4 hours.

Job Experience:
None. I did intern with the organization that runs the traveling Shakespeare troupe for one week the first summer and then two weeks the second. And next summer I'm going to be working fulltime there helping younger groups.

I'm also a national merit scholarship semifinalist and a Maryland Distinguished Scholar Honorable Mention. I'll have pretty good recs from my teachers and an amazing rec from the woman who runs the Traveling Players Ensemble (the organization I mentioned).

My interests are chemistry/physics and theatre. I think I want to major in chemistry or physics and either minor or, if that's not possible, double major in theatre.

Applying to:
UChicago EA
Brown
Dartmouth
Colgate (double-legacy, brother goes there currently)
Macalester
Swarthmore
Reed
Oberlin
Kenyon
University of Maryland - College Park (in-state)

I consider Maryland a definite safety, and Kenyon and Colgate I think are relatively safe, Colgate especially considering that both my stats and my ECs are better than my brother's (he was basically me without theatre and with debate) and that I have double legacy, although I'm doubtful as to how much legacy really helps these days.

So... what do you think?

bump 10char

bumpbumpbump

Come on, 61 views and no reply? Please, if you have any opinions, give them. I'd really appreciate it, as I'm starting to worry about my list.

Bumpity bump bump...
This is a pathetic number of bumps...

UChicago EA--Match--although depends upon essay
Brown--tough call--your lack of community service hurts you a lot at Brown--probably Slight Reach
Dartmouth--Reach
Colgate (double-legacy, brother goes there currently)--Match (legacies count for something, after all)
Macalester--Match
Swarthmore--Slight Reach (close to Match in my view--probably waitlist is the most likely result--so get prepared to send them follow-on info---if you fight for it, you can get in here if you are waitlisted)
Reed--Reach (ditto with the community service comment here)
Oberlin--Match (they will definitely like your background here--an excellent fit)
Kenyon--Safe Match to Match
University of Maryland - College Park (in-state)--Safe Match

Good luck.

Thanks! I'm curious, though, as to why you said that Reed was a reach while Swarthmore was a slight reach. Isn't Swarthmore more selective? Or is there some factor I'm missing here?

Anyone else?

And Reed's website says that (between the categories Very Important, Important, Considered, and Not Considered) ECs and volunteer work are "Considered."

http://web.reed.edu/ir/cds/cds0708/cdssecc200708.html

last bump...

Only weak spot is the ECs...
