so far ive been rejected from all my safety schools. BU is probably my last chance.
my SAT is 1540/2340-- 800M 740CR 800W
my gpa is 99w
im worried that i will be rejected because im overqualified but im hoping since im a legacy (my mom went there) that ill be accepted because it will show that maybe i do really wanna go there

do you think that legacy will save me from being rejected?

Do people get rejected from Tier 1 & 2 schools for being overqualified?

I know some universities don't want to admit students that aren't very likely to attend, but does that really extend to places like BU?

i think it does. ok i got rejected from lehigh and waitlisted at gwu, both good schools, and im thinking the only reason could be that they dont think im likely to attend and everyone is saying its cuz im overqualified. so yes i think it would apply to BU as well

yeah kat1228 i saw you on the GWU board. i got waitlisted from GWU but i got into georgetown EA...weird.

You will almost certainly get in. Sometimes, schools can sense a lack of interest in their institution, whether it is through the effort you put into the application, or the effort and depth of your essay. They have a way of knowing. I doubt a school would reject you just because you can get into much better places. If anything, I would assume that they would not only accept you, but throw tons of money at you to lure you away from the absolute top schools.

I agree with that. I think their was a article on CC intitled show you safety some love. Just as Devilsrule pointed out, some schools can sense that. Just don't be arrogant. Also most schools have a "type" (some may disagree wtih this) but in reality they do. The bottomline is they may have thought you were not a great fit.

And let's not forget that a safety is a school that you're SURE you will be accepted to and able to attend (i.e. financially realistic school).

Too many people seem to think that a safety is just the school that they're not totally in love with and absolutely need to go to. Just because it's not your 1st, 2nd, or even 5th choice, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a safety!

In fact, you can't go wrong if you pick a safety for your safety. lol

while your stats are over BU's average, the fact that you have a legacy shows that you may have a serious interest in actually attending the school...i don't think you will be rejected for being overqualified
