ECs are weak. Test scores are ok but not great. Maybe you could try retaking either the SAT I or SAT IIs?

One thing I’d suggest is focusing on your essays. It’s a bit late to bolster your app now with grades, tests, etc. but you can really stand out with essays. Research past essay topics from those schools (ask people if you have to) and think about how you can make the best one possible.

At the moment I’d say all of those are reaches except possibly UC Berkeley if you live in Cali and UMich.

Try to get a little more involved in ECs, retake SAT IIs but I think you should get a couple more safety schools in your list, although UNC could be a safety for you…
Good Luck :)

Academics are weak (prob. lower class rank, weak SATs/SAT IIs). ECs weak…so cookie cutter. What state are you from? anyways, expect rejections from Columbia, Brown, and Penn. UCB still reach depends on State, NW low reach. UNC/U of M match.

I’m a rising senior too, so I’d look like a hypocrite if I actually chanced you because I just made a chance board for Rutgers Pharm not too long ago. But I can analyze.

What I get from your ECs:

You’re a talented musician who’s willing to give back to the community by a) teaching other students the basics of musicianship b) demonstrating your love for God by your talent. You can sing and play piano, that’s a plus.

You’re also an athlete for your school team. I have no idea how good you are but I think it’s common sense that if you spend time in a sport you probably devoted a large amount of time to it.

You give back to the community by using your abilities to help those who need it.

Ignore those kids who said your ECs were weak. Are they original? Well, by CC standards, no, but that’s not saying much because you literally have to own a top company and save 6 children to be original on this site. But they’re good enough to get you to a number of these colleges. **** the kids who think that you need to win 23409238532 awards for a moderate shot at Columbia. There have been so many kids in my school whose main ECs strictly involved a few sports and maybe one or two clubs - they’re at Ivies now.

If I had your grades, this is what I’d do. Work on essays, make them beautiful. Get books, look up “best college essays” on Google, do whatever to have a great impression of what to write. Remember, don’t tell who you are, show who you are. Essays bring life to an application and can make your ECs, few as they still are, really stand out.

Second, and this is optional (like reallllllly optional) see if you can get SAT up to 2250+. If not then you can ignore this suggestion. But trust me, the scores help. (BTW Math 2 I think is better than Math 1 for SAT IIs, look into that?)

How your school curriculum like? I know little about how the weighted systems work but did you take a schedule that would be considered rigorous in your school? That’s important to know too. And, what state are you in? That could change the scenario for some of these schools.

Another thing - ADD MORE SCHOOLS. And not reach schools like what you have. Find schools that you think would be easy to get in to (safeties) and schools you think you have over 50% chance of getting in (matches). That part’s up to you. (Though, I suppose you have some matches already)

And last, don’t apply to Michigan. That’s one of my favorite schools and you’ll steal my acceptance. kidding. But the real last thing, whoever said “expect rejections from…” IGNORE. Don’t expect anything. This year will be the most random admission cycle for colleges to date, who knows what’ll happen in eight months.

Hope I helped. College Confidential is a joke website sometimes, ignore the people you don’t like.

Disagreeing with Tenors here. The OP’s chances simply aren’t that great at the schools she’s listed. The odds for Michigan and Chapel Hill aren’t bad at all really, but that SAT needs to be higher to be competitive for the more selective schools.

“There have been so many kids in my school whose main ECs strictly involved a few sports and maybe one or two clubs - they’re at Ivies now.”

Those kids are winning state and national titles and have shown dedication and passion to their activities. What the OP has written doesn’t show that level of commitment or success, though obviously I’m just going off what’s been written.

However, that’s no reason not to try. I’d focus first on getting a 2250ish SAT, and then just doing more things in your current activities. Your application is absolutely not bad, but there needs to be a tad more substance there.

In terms of chances:
UNC Chapel Hill - decent
U of Michigan - ditto
Cornell - maaaaybe
Columbia - can’t really see this happening
Northwestern - they seem to have somewhat random admissions, so why not?
Upenn - if not Wharton, then there’s a chance
Brown - maybe
U of C Berkeley - maybe

Low SAT and low SAT II scores for Asian.

Cornell - Reach but better chances if you are STEM oriented
Columbia - Reach
Northwestern - Reach but better chances
Upenn - Reach
Brown - Reach
U of C Berkeley - Better Chances

^^ @20more

Is it true that for asian Uni. have a low SAT ??

Unfortunately the truth is that asian SAT scores often have to be about 140 points higher for them to secure admission to top colleges as their Caucasian peers
There was some study done about that

Also, I’m pretty sure because of the money situation in California and the UC schools, out of state students should find it to be relatively easier to get into the UC schools

Your extracurriculars are pretty solid, in my opinion
Your weighted GPA is somewhat weak though (unless your system is totally different from mine. Ours is where weighted classes count for 5)
To echo everybody else, it really depends on how killer your essay is, and how much your teacher recommendations laud you. It’s definitely possible for you to get into those schools, I would apply if I were you. But as with pretty much everybody (except for those crazy super geniuses, and sometimes not even them), I wouldn’t expect too much.

Get higher scores and better EC’s. lol
