Chance at all of the top schools

I'm applying to Stanford, UPenn, Columbia, U.Chicago, Dartmouth, Northwestern, Cornell, Brown, Emory, UC Berkeley, UT for their Business programs.
I plan on starting my own business or non-profit when I get out of school.

Race: Asian/Indian

Class Rank: 45/780
SAT I: 2230
SAT II: 750, 800, 710
AP Classes: Junior: AP Statistics, AP Psychology, AP US History, AP Language and Comp
Senior: AP Calculus BC, AP English IV, AP Chemistry, AP Euro History, AP Environmental Science

Extra-curricular:
Online Business - Successful blog and business about academics and personal development
Internship - 30-35 hours/week internship at a motel nearby
President of DECA - Business and Marketing Club
Cross Country Running - Running Team

Summer Camp through religious organization
Debate and Tennis in 9-10 grade(was over half way qualified for state in SC debate for both years)

as you can tell, i’ve decided to laser-beam focus my extracurriculars on business and marketing because i don’t plan on every being an employee but rather always being self-employed.

Honestly, I think you’re a relatively weak candidate for the schools you’ve listed. SATs are good, rank is okay, but kind of low for those schools. But your ECs seem pretty weak… What exactly does an internship at a motel entail?

“Debate and Tennis in 9-10 grade(was over half way qualified for state in SC debate for both years)” What does this mean?

UCB, UT and Emory are probably matches. Everything else is either a high match or reach. Good luck

ECs are weak? I’ve focused on business. Obviously at 16, I’m not going to get an internship at Goldman Sachs or Boeing.

I’m getting experience on how to run my own business so that it can help me in the future. I’m president of a Business club at my school, I own my own business which makes me a decent income.

Key word: business

Reason for key word: BUSINESS SCHOOL

Not to mention that working 30-35 hours a week doing the dirty work/tech work/checking guests in at a motel is pretty difficult…

Schools of that tier are looking for more well rounded students. We all know you probably do well at business, but what else can you offer those schools?

Well, along with the Website/Blog, I have developed writing ability and ability to manuever through complex ideas. The site is oriented toward Philosophy/Spirituality and I use running as more of a spiritual experience!

Good luck!

yeah… I noticed lol.

By the way, Brown does not have a business school at all. Chicago, Northwestern, Dartmouth, Stanford, and Columbia have fine Business Schools, but don’t have undergraduate business programs. While these are all fine schools, maybe you should be looking at universities with good UNDERGRADUATE business programs (NYU, Michigan, etc.)

I’ll stand by what I said about UCB and UT.

That leaves Penn Wharton, and Cornell AEM, which are both extremely, EXTREMELY selective. You’re qualified, but on the weak side.

I don’t exactly know what your online business is about, but I’ll take your word that it’s legit. And with all due respect, I don’t really see how your motel position’s an internship. Are you learning anything valuable about business or are you just vacuuming floors and checking guests in?

*PS: I agree with basketball about being more well-rounded

Don’t ask the people on this website if you are going to make colleges because they are only going to criticize you. Put a lot of effort into your applications and do the best you can. Best of luck to you!

Thanks, guys.
I was actually going to declare an Econ major for the ones that don’t have business schools.

lol that would’ve been good to know… In that case I’d say you’ve got a decent shot at Chicago and Northwestern.

Can’t really say much on chances. What were your SAT II scores in? And your splits in your SAT? You’re aiming really high…

yea a gpa would help. hah admins wont believe the “i focus on deca” thing. So where are your national/global awards??

In= Emory or UCB/UT(if they are in-state)

What’s your blog’s PR?
