Chance at Berkeley?

4 yrs I Love a Clean San Diego volunteer
3 yrs student ambassador
2 yrs ASB
2 yrs Yearbook section editor

1 yr GSA President (co-founded this yr)
1 yr Intern/volunteer at University of San Diego (dunno where this goes on the app b/c it's unpaid? I put it under volunteer)
No sports (hurts me? probably)
This isn't all of them. Just the more prominent ones.

Anything is much appreciated. Thanks!

What’s your UC Gpa?

@paul2752 Not quite sure if dual enrollment college courses count for UC GPA. My school weights them, hence the 4.4. That would be my UC GPA. If not, then probably slightly less. 4.3 minimum.

yes they are weighted if they are transferable (IGETC)

Alright, thanks. Then in that case I believe my UC GPA is 4.4 as well.

Any Awards?

National Merit Commended (217). AP scholar w/honor. Honor Roll/Honorary Valedictorian. Various leadership awards here and there that I probably won’t bother putting on the app seeing as there’s only five spots.

I think Valedictorian and the leadership award that you consider the most important are actually worth putting in…
I asked because if you had any significant award, you would be a match/high match.

I’ll put two in to fill the extra spots, but I have more that I won’t give up my National Merit or AP scholar spots to put in.

And thanks for the input!

I think UC Berkeley is a low to mid reach for you. The main reason why I feel this way is because of your school curriculum. Your counselor answers whether you have taken the most rigorous school curriculum available to you, and from what I can tell you have not (unless your schools is weird and only offers those specific AP classes?). This will hurt you. Your 4.0 GPA is not as significant as I would say a 3.85 GPA from a full IB candidate or full AP. Your SATs are average for them. Good luck, I would apply you have a decent chance.

No “sports” affects kids who are able to get and maintain higher grades because they haven’t participated in sports and learned how to maintain their balance of activities. I would also say it’s a reach because you lack a number of AP classes. How do you know you are valedictorian already?

@Bailkun‌ @“aunt bea” Actually, those are the only AP courses offered. Because of the partnership we have with the local community college, we basically take classes there instead of AP classes (up to two in our junior year, up to four in our senior year.) It’s also relatively small (My graduating class is in the mid 100’s.)

The only one they offer that I haven’t taken is AP Spanish, but then again I’m also going out of my way to take an AP not offered at my school (AP Gov) online, plus taking a language class community college next semester.

My school also names the student with the highest GPA the “honorary valedictorian” at the end of each year. It’s always been me. I’m also taking one more AP (AP Gov) than the salutatorian-in-the-running which bumps my GPA up and unless I get two B’s then I won’t be behind. I’ve never gotten a B, so I’m not worried.

Bump??

Solid to very good chances…

UCB is not that difficult to get into

UCB: high Match

Good Luck

Thanks for the feedback!
