Chance at Brown PLME ED

Hello everyone! I am currently a junior and next year, I will be applying Early Decision to Brown University and to their PLME program. I know that people do not typically like to see "Chance Me" threads by juniors, but I am applying Early Decision in November, so I hope you can make an exception!

Grade: 11
Class Rank: School does not rank
GPA: 4.65 (weighted), school only sends weighted
SAT: I will be taking them in May, but I received a 2100 on a diagnostic test for a prep class that is supposed to improve your score by 100-200 points, to give you an indication of how I will perform.

Basic Info:
-Ethnicity: African American
-Gender: Female
-Family Income: ~$120,000 (will be decreasing soon when my mother goes back to school)

I apologize if this is an excessive amount of information. I would just really like to know what are the basic things I can do (besides write a super awesome essay, which is in the works) to improve my chances of getting into Brown's PLME program. Thank you!

Fairly decent I guess but PLME is a crapshoot for everyone

Thank you. Lol, PLME is basically a crapshoot, as you said, which is why I want to know what I can do to improve my chances.

Chances are always low for anyone applying PLME, but being AA is a big plus. (Female is no longer a minority of applicants, so not a “plus”.) Your research is almost a necessary, so do what you can to capitalize on that. (do what you can to have medical experience carry into the school year times.) Get a great reference letter from the research person who knows you best. And as you said, write some incredible essays!

Thank you BrownAlumParent! I will definitely be capitalizing on my research experience in my application, and I will volunteering throughout the school year, summer, and next year at a hospital. Thank you for the advice!

Bumpity bump bump.

High match at best

^Uh, thank you, is “high match at best” any good? If not, what may I do to improve my chances?

It looks like you have a good balance of everything. Every applicant for the PLME will have outstanding qualifications just like you, and it will boil down to your essays and recommendations at that point. Make sure whoever you ask for your recommendation can expound on your personality ( if you were to ask your research mentor, make sure it’s not a reiteration of your research paper). Good luck!

here’s the ranks
high reach - forget about it
low reach - eh…
high match - you are on the mid to lower end of applicants
match - you are right in with the other applicants
low match - you are on the upper echelon of applicants
safety - you’re in!!

but honestly you can’t, I mean your profile is amazing, but then again everyone applying to Brown has an amazing profile, nom sayin? Overall, I would say MAKE your recs and essays FREAKIN AWESOME!!

@mrcyna, Thank you! I will have worked with my mentors for two months after this summer’s end, so it will probably be a very good recommendation.

@Sameer1, Thank you for that clarification. I will be making my essays freakin awesome, haha, that can be assured.

Bump 10char

Buuuuuuuuuuuuump. :)

Chances are always low for anyone applying PLME but you are a very solid applicant. Being AA is a good hook and your Harvard Research. Especially aim for that 2250+ SAT! Good luck (:
