Hey guys i just wanted to see what you guys think of my chances at Brown or Rice.
I'm a pretty upper middle class white male from a very working class public high school on long island NY.

Chem SAT 2 800.....I plan to take probably math 1 or 2 in November...pretty good at math so i hope for at least a 750
I'm not sure about my GPA out of 4.0...my school only gives us out of 100 so mine is around mid 90's unweighted somewhere above 100 weighted
class rank- fluctuates alot but definitely somewhere in top 10 or 15 out of a class of around 850

I know my E.C's are lackluster but what do u guys think about brown?

I really want to major in physical chemistry...my A.P chem teacher told me she will write a nice rec, also get ones from my A.P english teacher and my school principal.

Thanks guys.

i know my post is a little long but 20 something views and no replys? come on guys please give me some advice and opinions. ill chance you back too if you’d like. thanks!

your chances don’t look bad for Brown. A reach but not out of reach. Rice is more of a match. Hopefully your GPA is as good as your other grades.

thanks for the reply. and i meant chemical physics as the major not physical chem btw. ill have to try and find out what my % gpa converts to out of 4.0

bump…

Your chances appear good for Rice. However, Brown is another story; Brown is going to be a crapshoot (so is Rice, but a less of a one). I’d say Rice is a match and Brown is a reach for you.

Only problem might be your ECs… it looks like a laundry list. In your college application and essays, focus on one or two of them and explain the meaning they have had for you. In other words, mention the most meaningful ones on your college app, and you can mention the other ones on a supplementary resume. Make sure in your essays to describe what you have gotten out of participating in the one or two extracurriculars that you were most passionate about.

I applied to Brown as well, and I think it is overrated. Although more people have heard of Brown, I feel the academics and quality of life is better at Rice. I wish you the best of luck, and GO OWLS!
