Chance at Bryn Mawr College?

I'm very interested in Bryn Mawr College but I'm afraid that my scores may not allow me be accepted either slim to nonexistent.

Graduated high school in June 2009
GPA: 3.0
SAT I (November 2008)
Critical Reading: 490
Math: 380
Writing: 380
Multiple Choice: 38
Essay: 06

I am now retaking my SATs this Saturday in hopes of getting a better score this time around and going to aim for at least perhaps 500 in each area, especially my math.

-AP courses-Were not available at my school.
-I took to college courses through Allegheny College of Maryland at my school in Grammar and Communications; A+ in each course.
-Volunteered for a month at my towns community library.
-Participated in my schools graphic design elective; chosen to be features in PA State Logo competition, as well as had a yearbook 2 page spread featured in our schools yearbook.
-Always was in 50%-80%(percentile) in physical education in our school.
Participated in 2 years or field hockey, and basketball but dropped out of them my last two years in high school.

I'm not sure if all that matters but perhaps it might give you an idea?
Even with my stats being as low as they are, if I write a nice essay do you think they may accept someone like me?

I'm having a real hard time finding colleges I like, the community on campus and the overall campus look appeal greatly to me. I come from a very tiny school of less than 300 kids and Bryn Mawr seems like a nice college with some quirky traditions that I'd love, and I'm ready for a vigorous academic learning.
It has been appealing to me more and more in it being an all womens college, I've had some very traumatizing events over my high school years with boys and though I don't base all boys on them I'd feel much safer and comfortable in a surrounding without them for the most part.

I'm also open to any suggestions on other women colleges that have a nice standard in academic learning and campus. I live in Pennsylvania and Bryn Mawr is the only one I've found here.

[The Women’s College Coalition](http://www.womenscolleges.org/) has an up-to-date list of the women’s colleges. You might find a better match for yourself than Bryn Mawr.

Wishing you all the best.

Thank you, I’m taking a look right now at the ones listed there.

I actually contacted Bryn Mawr College today on the phone and asked what their average GPA of acceptance was but they said they could only share the SAT average scores?
Verbal: 650-740
Math: 590-680
Writing: 610-710

I asked if they ever accept anything lower and they said it solely is determined my your interview with them. So I take it they still could consider me and my scores that I hopefully raise this SAT round if I plan an interview with them and tour the college?

The most important factor in college admissions is your high school transcript. That is, the classes that you took, and the grades that you earned in those classes. They also look for changes in your GPA over time - did your grades get better? did they get worse?

Your SAT scores are low for a college like Bryn Mawr. But you may have mitigating circumstances, such as a learning disability that was not accommodated during the exam, or you may be still learning English.

In an interview, these are some of the things that the admissions officer might want to find out about. But, please remember the interview is not designed to keep you OUT of a college, it is to help you and the interviewer see if you and that college are good matches for each other. In an interview at Bryn Mawr, you may realize that you don’t want that particular college, but what you are looking for are a couple of things that you could have at Bryn Mawr. That information will help you come up with more choices for yourself.

Not going to sugar-coat, you have no chance. None. Not even if you raise scores on all sections to 500. Above poster, stop leading her on.

I have to agree with the above poster. You have no chance with these scores and grades.

Don’t know how far you want to get from Pa. but Mills in Oakland CA might be a great choice for you.
