Again, if you could take some time to predict my chances, it would be really appreciated :D

Let me tell you a story...

Ok, so there was this awesome kid at my high school who didn't necessarily have the most amazing stats...3.2 GPA, about a 1900 on his SATs, no honor society or anything like that.

But he lived on a ranch (this is in AZ). He was also an active eagle scout and did alot of ranching stuff. It is a family owned ranch that operates as a hotel, and this kid did alot of stuff for it.

He applied to two schools with well known hotel management programs: NAU and Cornell. He got into Cornell! Why, you ask?

It was not his stats, that's for sure, but he had the background, and evidently, the passion for hotel management. Hell, he lived on a ranch and ran it with his parents! How awesome is that?! So yeah, he was accepted.

The moral of my story is that if you show your passion for hotel mgmt to Cornell, I'm sure they will accept you...Not to mention your spectacular stats! Good luck

Thank you for your story. It's really helpful. :)

Your welcome. It's a story that always inspires me in all the college stress. Haha, he was a good friend of mine too. It just goes to show that, ultimatey...

PASSION > fancy numbers and showy scores

Good to hear your story. Unfortunately we don't live on a ranch or own a hotel but my D has wanted to go to Hotel School at Cornell for over a year now. she is finishing up her junior year and we have visited twice. She is a good student, 3.6 gpa , current SAT 1830 - she goes to a competitive private school in Ca where 100% of graduates go to 4 year colleges, and has good extra curriculars- yearbook 3 years- copy editor, activities committee Chair 2 years, cheerleader,4 years, Captain 1 year, community service with church in Belize and Mexico etc...She has the perfect personality for Hospitality with a genuine interest in hotels, restaurants, cuisine, and a great way with people. We have some family connections to Cornell but she is not a direct legacy. she'll be doing an internship this summer before applying. Does she have a chance in hell or should I really work to steer her elsewhere?

nice story, very helpful.
