Letters/Essay
Very good. Had the CEO (hes a Harvard/Brown grad.) write me one along w/2 teachers
Essay is very good, I think it will stand out

Schools interested in:
Ivies: Dartmouth, Brown, Harvard
Top tier schools: Amherst, Williams, Wesleyan, Brandeis, Middlebury, BC, Bowdoin
Safties: Stonehill, Bentley

Additional Info:
Low-income family, needs lots of financial aid, single mom
Less than stellar grades freshman year due to illness (mostly B+'s and A-'s)
If only junior year was taken into account, I would be ranked 5/474 (according to the GC)
Only took SAT once, expect an improvement

Chances? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

This is confusing–a top 5 high school in a top 3 state yet only 3 or 4 to ivies each year?

the schools on your first 2 lists other than Brandeis are all super reaches. Even if you get to 2200, your barely top 10% rank and not taking the toughest classes will make most of these schools tough.

For reaches you might look at schools like Bates, Mac, Carleton. For matches BU, Vassar.

Sorry I meant top 3-4% get into ivies/top choices

All these colleges are reaches for you. look for some matches and safeties also.

those were all reaches obv. i just wanted to know if i have a shot

reaches: ^^
targets: Bentley, Stonehill, Providence college, Connecticut college, Colby, Bates, Marist
safties: Quinnipiac, Fairfield, Bryant

any other thoughts?

Id say you’ll probably get into those safeties and maybe one of the LAC’s you listed but all rest are pretty high reaches. If you bring those scores up some of them will be a little more realistic. Also only list those EC’s which are really important to you dont just give colleges a laundry list because that doesnt show commitment

Colby and Bates are reaches, the others look good.

Who knows for Colby and Bates? Remember that Bates is SAT optional. Brown and Middlebury are reaches, but not out of the realm of possibility. These are both colleges where EC’s and essays are important if you have those, you stand a chance there too. Of course, Harvard is a reach for all.

Other schools look good.

most of your top schools are reaches, but well chosen safeties. congrats on the good essay!

In terms of colleges, you have some strong choices. However, many of your so-called “notable EC’s” aren’t all notable (no offense…really)
I think it’s commendable that you recieved recommendations from a CEO. That’s very cool! However, I think your SAT score needs a little more improvement. Take it again and try to score above a 2200. For example, my sis is a Brown first-year with EXCELLENT financial aid (she only has to pay 500 a year and were middle class!) and had a 2290 and that was the middle of their SAT’s. Again, your SAT 2’s are great but you didn’t get over that notable hump of 700, which makes a BIG difference…
Otherwise, I love your stat’s…and I think you have a pretty good chance at most of your schools, with the exception of Harvard and Brown, I think you have a 50/50 chance of getting into to Dartmouth and you’ll for sure get 2 to 3 of your top tier’s, maybe 4…Amherst and Williams are a toss-up but I think you have a really great chance of getting into Dartmouth and even Brown and Harvard are worth applying to. You have excellent stats and oviously go to a great school so you’re good to go. As for your safties…you’re in.
Thanks for chancing me…don’t you love when people respond thorougly, instead of in five word sentences? :)

You should really raise your SAT.
Other than that, good profile, but as already said:
a lot of reaches

Reach…it really depends on your extracurriculars.

What did you do to teach college interns?
If you show you did some great work as an intern (hmm maybe that CEO rec will help here) you’ll have a decent chance.

I honestly think you have a chance, but your extra-curriculars need to be strong. Besides that go for it. Also applying as a pre-med major might make thinks a bit more difficult just to warn you.

Brandeis and Conn. are good targets (and maybe BC?), Colby, Bates and the rest are still reaches but not impossible, though usually it’s smart to consider Amherst and Williams as in the same boat as the ivies. Be aware that Bates is being a bit hinky these days re financial aid, and Brandeis lost a lot in the Madoff affair. Do you know about QuestBridge? It’s a scholarship program for low-income, high-achieving kids that matches you with amazing top-tier schools (including Princeton, Yale, Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin), and foots the ENTIRE bill. Check out the website! ([QuestBridge Home Page](http://www.Questbridge.org))

I’m not too sure about the LACs so i cant chance you there

but for darthmouth and brown I would say midreaches unelss you can get your sat up to maybe 2100, 2200s, harvard is a high reach as it is for anyone

Dartmouth - reach
Brown - reach
Harvard -UBER reach
Amherst - reach
Williams - reach
Wesleyan - lower reach
Brandeis - high match
Middlebury - lower reach
BC - high match/low reach
Bowdoin - lower reach
Stonehill - match
Bentley - match

You seem to have a lot of circumstances that might have contributed to your lower scores–colleges will look at these. Your ECs look above average but not spectacular. Your SAT scores/GPA are definitely on the low end of the Ivy spectrum. Take the SAT again, and try to get at least 2100+ (aka >700 in each area). Same with SAT IIs. There is not much you can do about your GPA, but if your guidance counselor writes a note saying that you were sick frosh year, colleges will take that into account.

Do ED to an ivy/top choice…and see what happens. If you don’t get in, you’ve got some great safeties to look at

Hmm, if you could raise your rank to around top five percent and get an SAT of around 2150-2200, I think your chances would improve immensely. Right now, the Ivies have to be considered reaches, as they are for anyone, and I think Colby and Bates are good match schools for you. Your ECs are fine, and, assuming better SAT scores/GPA, I think you will see some great acceptances! Best of luck :)

wow ur ECs are really cool and of course chance wise i agree with everyone above so i will provide some suggestions :]

1) improve ur SAT scores i think minimum score for ivy is like 2200 so try to raise it or at last break 2000

2) try to do more med related stuff esp if u want to get into plme

3) retake ur Math SAT2 try to break 700 and u shud def think bout taking the bio sat2 esp because you want to do pre med

yea i hope that helps :D

^ There is no “minimum” score for an Ivy. We had a girl get into Cornell with below 2000, just barely, SATs. She was not legacy, URM, or anything with a hook. It is how you present yourself. Sure, she had good ECs and was Sal, but still, she got it.
