Chance at naval academy.

I am a freshman in high school wanting to go to usna, usafa or West Point. I have a cumulative gpa for my freshman year as 3.5 and I took two honors classes. I did cross country in the fall. Backpacking in the winter and Jv lacrosse in the spring. I am also doing Boy Scouts and am about to make eagle this summer. Do you guys think that I’m doing good for my freshman year. The main thing I’m worried about is my gpa. Also I am taking 3 honors classes out of 5 and no AP in tenth grade will that hurt me because that is one of my biggest questions. My last question is do the academy’s care about mid year and semester grades. Please answer as honestly as you guys can, thanks.

No AP in 10th grade is not going to be a problem. Starting off with a 3.5 GPA doesn’t help unless your class rank is pretty high

I know it doesn’t help but how much do they really care about a 3.5 in 9th grade. Is it a deal breaker?

I know Naval Academy does care about class rank, and I assume a 3.5 will not get you much in that area. Just work on bringing it up. Eagle will probably help you out though. You’ll also need to go varsity in either CC or lacrosse for a legitimate chance of getting in. I’m just like you, just a bit different. I’m a freshman. I don’t know my exact GPA, but last time I checked I was 12th in my class. I’ve got JV football and I’m in JV lacrosse right now.

GPA can be so relative. Some schools don’t weight honors classes much at all, while others give them a full point higher. So the grade scale can vary by a lot. A 3.5 at a very competitive college prep school can mean a lot more than at a school that isn’ta s competitive and weighs grades higher. So not sure on that one. Make sure to take as rigorous a courseload as you can reasonably manage, work towards leadership roles in the extra-curriculars that you are involved in. Eagle scout will help for sure. Start taking the ACT and do some prep classes in that so that you are competitive there as well. You aren’t sunk for sure but have to keep your eye on the goal.
