Chance at Penn State

I really don't run out of time...It seems like my big weakness is Math in almost all areas. I've never been a big math person, whether it be Algebra, Geometry, or Trig. I guess I have trouble grasping the math with certain questions.

I took one practice test before the new SAT and studied a bit on the side for it. Guess I'll have to take more tests to see what I'm doing wrong. Also, I answered all of the questions on it. I was considering skipping some but I read that if you can eliminate AT LEAST one from the choices, you should take a shot.

I have to raise my score 260 points...It's possible but I've seen a lot of people raise their score, at the very most, about 70 points. It's gonna have to take a huge jump...

Get a lot of practice with SAT math problems. Buy a SAT math workbook (only about $12, I think) and start solving! The more practice (and confidence) you get, the more of a chance you have for getting a high score.

alright, will do. Hopefully I can do a lot better in all areas, but my main focus is Math. I'm sure the SAT math workbook should help a lot...

One question...Do colleges make the best SAT score from your best scoring sections, just like on the old SAT?

BUMP...Just to repeat the question in the post above:

Do colleges make the best SAT score from your best scoring sections, just like on the old SAT?

The daughter of a friend of mine was rejected with scores similar to yours but did well at another school and was able to transfer into Penn State. She's done really well there and graduates next month. I don't want to discourage you, but if you don't get in initially, it's very possible to transfer in after you've proven yourself at another college. Some people are just not good test takers, it doesn't mean they can't do well in college. Good luck.

As for your question, I think most places take your highest individual scores. Check with Penn State for how they do it.

alright, thanks a lot!

your in, high gpa

melon390 - well...I know that Penn State University Park looks heavily on a high GPA, but wouldn't I need a solid SAT score (something like a 1700 or better)? It's odd that I could get into a school like that based solely on a high gpa.

BUMP...read post above by me. Just curious because if a high gpa alone can get me a solid shot at getting in, I'd be pretty happy.

BUMP once again...still curious on the question above.
