I know that its still early, but can i please know if im wasting my time or if i actually have a good chance at princeton, my dream school. assuming i score 4's and 5's on the AP exams this year, 700+ on the sat II's, and excellent essay and teacher recs, what are my chances?? (will chance back!)

Hmm. What are your UW and W GPAs? And class rank?

I would say you have a decent shot, especially since Princeton doesn't consider freshman year grades. Still, I can't really tell what your passion is. Your EC's are good but honestly pretty typical. Just try to make yourself stand out more.

Our school doesn't rank, but definitely top 10%. Cum Laude also.
UW gpa (including freshman year is like a 3.6 and weighted a 3.85 (we have small weights :/ ) if you don't include freshman year its more like a 3.78 UW and 4.05 W (and all this is only core classes)

and as far as a passion goes i don't really have one. I am however one of the most all-around people i know, so I'm good in a lot of areas (sports, music, school, social) rather than having one specific passion. Another EC i forgot to mention is clubs- president of Young Republicans and member of the spanish club since 9th grade

Also, I forgot to mention its a pretty prestigious prep school, although i can't remember the last time we sent one to Princeton...

honestly, i agree with random. i think stanford is probably the #1 place you have to show a strong passion, but top ivies like princeton, i think its almost essential, too.

Yeah, I have to agree with Random and White. You really need to show why you're special. If you don't have a passion, then you are the same as every other applicant and there is no reason to admit you. I suggest you find what you reallllllly care about in life before applying at Princeton.

forgot some things:
part of the editorial staff of our high school magazine
I have recently been acclaimed as one of the students who has won the greatest number of awards in our school( in an article )
coordinated a research activity in our high school ( it consisted of applying questionnaies, collecting and interpreting data, publishing it + I was the coordinator of the entire group who did this)
my activity as a volunteer implied some sort of research activity ( went to dif. schools, applied questionnaires, collected the data;) + direct work with the children at a daily center
National Children's Forum ( participated about 5 times)
great recs.
intended major: sociology
can I please get an honest opinion?

oh, also had an interview - went very well
the interviewer said it was definitely interesting as I was the first person he had interviewed who was not into pure sciences

thank you, Wannadartmouth. I've recently seen the admission statistics for 2012 and apparently 2.3% of those accepted had an SAT I score in the 1700-1890 range. plus, most of the Romanians applying to Princeton are math, physics, chemistry... olympians- hope my commitment to a diff. subject will be of some use. well, Princeton is indeed my first-choice but if I am not accepted to any of the universities I applied to ( HYP, Williams, Colgate, Grinnell, Wellesley, Brandeis) , I'll apply to one in Germany and to Sorbonne in France.

that's just not to get my hopes up... I would really like to be admitted to Princeton which is my dream school. but, well... we'll see...

For those of you say he has no passion, doesn't he have a passion for music? I may be incorrect, but it seems like he has a lot of music credentials. I think needs more extra curricular activies and leadership. Also his class schedule does not seem very difficult, thus he has a low weighted GPA. You still have a chance, like everybody else that applies. Where do you go to High school, I also live in south florida.

This is just a general question Playa678--does your high school have solid reputation among the Ivies and other elite colleges? Have any attended Princeton recently?

ya solid but not great. we send a 4 or 5 to the ivies on average a year. I cant remember any going to Princeton since I've been here, but 3 or 4 since frosh year that i know of got in and just chose harvard or yale over it.
