Hi. So I go to a really good private school in nyc which is recognized as being like extreamly hard and such. Like this year, out of a class of 102, we sent like 21 kids to HYPS. People in the middle(B - B+) of that class got sent to like Duke(rarely), Hopkins, Emory etc. And everybody got into college.
And I just got back my jr year grades, and my gpa(we dont actually have GPAs but i caculated it) was a 3.57. It had been a little bit lower freshman and sophmore years(like a B/B+).

My sats were 2210 - 750 CR, 720 W, 740 M.
Sat IIs - 710Math I, 750 US history.

The highlights of my extras are
1.) 3 sport varsity athlete
Baseball, varsity since freshman year.
Cross Country - 1 year varsity.
Indoor track - 2 years varsity.
2.) Newspaper sectional editor.
3.) Paid internship with a neurologist.
4.) Alumni Affiars club co-president (legit club that makes money for the school)
and a good amount of community service and such.

Also, I will have good recs.

so with that, what are my chances at all the sunys, Duke, NYU, Uchicago, Michigan, UVA, Rice, Hopkins, USC, Pomona, and Hamilton.

You have excellent EC’s, however, I agree with artmed. Your GPA is a bit low for Michigan. You should really consider taking the ACT. Michigan really likes that. I know someone who got into UMich with a GPA of 3.78, an SAT score of 1528, an ACT score of 22, and practically zero EC’s. She had a killer essay, and even better teacher recommendations. Michigan looks at the whole package, and not simply grades and standardized test scores.

SUNY-match
Duke-reach. Your SAT score is great, but your GPA is low. Apply early if you can, and ask for an interview.
NYU-match. NYU offers a new testing option for a combination of standardized test scores. For example, for you, I’d either send in three SAT II’s, or a combo or SAT I and 2 SAT II’s. Your SAT II scores are good enough. Anything 700 +.
UChicago-reach. I want to apply there as well. GPA, again, too low, SAT and SAT II = nice. Have a killer essay, since Chicago’s essay counts for A LOT.
UVA-reach/match. I’m in between on this one.
Pomona-slight reach
USC-don’t know much about them
Rice-match. Your standardized test scores makes up for your low GPA. I feel like tests matter more to Rice than your grades.
Hopkins-reach. Need to have the whole package.

Applying to all above mentioned schools = some chance, as opposed to not applying at all. Good luck!

can i get into these colleges: rice, tufts, chicago, northwestern, ucla, ucb, ucsd, and uci?
with a 4.0 weighted gpa from 10th to 11th grades. 3.8 or 3.9 ish unweighted
im planning to take sat next year and confident i’ll get at least 2100. and also act, prob will get at least 32.
as for sat subjects, i didn’t get scores yet but think i got around 650-700 on the two i took.
i have very lil ec’s, only running SRO (sroakland.org) and one minimum wage job.
also im studying for sat this summer and taking acollege level english class at a cc
sorry about posting this here, i dont no how to start my own thread, please tell me if u no

Are you from california, cus if so, then I think your in at all the UC schools, except maybe UCB. But without true scores, its hard to say. Your GPA is fine for all of those schools. Just join more clubs and activities and sports! If you can do that, keep your grades up, and get 2100+, then you should be fine.

yea im from california. i took sat in junior year already but got only 1810 on it. and im doing act first time in the fall.

does going to library count as activity? cuz i go there kinda often but only to borrow books or return em lol.
also would it hurt if my job is only on weekends and not everyday? i work like 3-8 hours a week so it varies
as for SRO, which is a local marathon training program, can i use that in my app by saying it taught me perseverance and hard work?

Decent chances overall, but that GPA is definitely pretty low for this caliber. Your SAT is excellent though.

I think you did really well on the SAT and could easily match the average SAT for a lot of those schools - but I think the GPA could be higher possibly. If you’re taking AP classes, it’ll be understandable, but you might want to try and get those up. The extracurriculars are good, but try to expand on them more in the application. Overall, your essay is probably going to be key to a lot of these schools so try to start working on it - consider taking the ACT as well, my guidance counselor says that a lot of times your ACT could help but with SAT scores that high, it might not be needed. Try anyway. I don’t really know about a lot of those schools but I definitely agree with most of the other opinions here. Work on your essay and GPA and you’ll do fine - spend a lot of time on your application… interview whenever possible, especially early for your first choices. It’ll show your enthusiasm. Visit a lot - demonstrated interest will help for schools that aren’t in the top tier. Good luck!!! :)

great stuff man, a bit low gpa but it’s fine

Duke - low reach

i can’t chance you for the specific schools, but your weakness lies in your gpa. your sat scores make up for it. your ec’s are okay–just make sure you get good recs/essay Best of luck to you!

Do you know your rank in your school? Because your unweighted GPA and SAT scores don’t match. Even though your GPA is low, your SAT scores should make up for that and colleges may simply assume that your school is tough. OR they may assume that you’re naturally brilliant (hence the SAT scores) but naturally lazy (hence the GPA). If you can, try to play up your work ethic for colleges somewhere in your application so that they know the situation I mentioned is not the case. But I think you’ll be fine for the colleges you want to go to :)

What is your rank? If 20% really do get into those extreme Ivy’s and Stanford, then if you are in the top half of your class then I would assume that you have a great shot at all your schools.

Your GPA is rather low, but luckily your SAT I offsets it - hopefully it’s due to AP classes. Good ECs.

Your SAT scores are solid but your GPA is definitely on the low side- I think that’ll really hurt you… your ECs are good, not outstanding, but solid enough to get you into most of the places you want, I think…

hmmm yea i agree about the low GPA…but hey, it’s all about the rigor of your classes, so maybe colleges will see to that. Your ECs are pretty solid though.
