Chance at SDSU Direct Entry Nursing

Hi all! I am currently a senior at a high school in the Bay Area, CA. I plan on applying to San Diego State’s Direct Entry Nursing Program as a freshman for fall of 2020. I also plan to apply to CSULB and Cal Poly SLO for Biochemistry. I was wondering what my chances to these schools would be.

My stats:
CSU GPA: 4.395
SAT Math: 730
SAT EBRW: 760

SDSU would definitely be my top pick, but as schools get more competitive, it’s hard to know where I’ll get in. As of now, SDSU is the only college I’m applying to for direct entry nursing. Are there any other ones in CA or nearby states that are as good? Thank you in advance for all the help!!

P.S. @Gumbymom I noticed that you are very knowledgeable and have been incredibly helpful in the forums for CA schools. All of your posts have had extremely useful information for me and it would be great if you could help me with my own case!

2019 Nursing stats not yet available but based on your CSU GPA and SAT scores, you are a very competitive applicant.

Here are the admitted student stats for 2018 and earlier: https://nursing.sdsu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Freshmen-Admission-Statistics.pdf
I would also apply to UC Irvine, UCLA, CSU Fullerton, University of San Francisco for direct admit nursing.

hi! You have very competitive scores and gpa for applying to the nursing program at sdsu. Here is the information about the 2019 incoming class:
https://nursing.sdsu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/FTFAdmissionProfile_2015-2019-1.pdf
The acceptance rate was about 5.3% for 2019 (the trend looks like each year the acceptance rate lowers slightly)
Good luck!!

I have also heard that CSU Fullerton has a great nuring program, but it is smaller (in numbers) than SDSU’s

My D is a 2nd year nursing student at SDSU. In addition to SDSU and USF she got into U of Portland, Gonzaga Univ and Seattle Univ. All have good programs and offer renewable merit scholarships to bring the cost of attendance close to or inline with the CA public schools.

Even for high stats students, the admissions process can be unpredictable so apply broadly.

My daughter also applied. 4,1 GPA, 1320 SAT, and a National Scholar - which apparently they don not take into consideration. Very frustrating how hard it is to get into our own state schools!!

Thank you all for your help! I just submitted to SDSU

@Susan5252 I completely agree! Schools are insanely competitive now. Best of luck to your daughter!
