Son very interested in applying to the SOM at BU this fall, possibly ED. Does BU accept a larger percentage of its applicants applying ED rather than RD? He’s got a 700M, 620CR, 540W; 3/4 of his classes have been honors and will take 3 APs this senior year; pres. of a language club and on a varsity team; few other ec’s; a little volunteering; summer job. Also, not applying for aid.

Thoughts on his chances for admission? Thanks.

BU accepts approx the same % from RD as ED, though they are trying to change that by getting more people to apply ED. But that takes a while to change and even fi he didn't make it in ED, he would automatically be put in the RD pool.

His tests scores are very good and it seems like he has a nice balance of ec's that he is committed to, which is more important that just the number of activities.

And BU is need blind, so the fact that he is not applying for aid makes do difference.

BU's acceptance rate could rise significantly next year. I heard every school but CAS had lower enrollment this year probably due to the cost and the economy right now. Since it doesn't look like the economy will straighten out anytime soon this will probably have impact on expensive private schools.

LOL, i was like "SOM?" as well when i saw this. he should have a decent shot at SMG, perhaps try to retake the SAT's again once more senior year to raise that writing/CR score? also, you did not mention his GPA? if it is 3.3+, and he manages to up his scores, he should raise his chances from decent to pretty darn good :P

best of luck doing ED. i am a sophomore in SMG next year, and thusfar, SMG has been great to me. IMO, the best school at BU ;) our facilities/library are amazing (among the best if not the best on campus), your profs are wonderful, we have an excellent career placement rate/chances for networking, the way our courses are designed (team-based) makes class more enjoyable and interactive - we even have our own starbucks. enjoy the college application process, don't sweat about it too much--it is easier than it seems.
