Hi I am currently a junior in high school and I wanted to know my chances at these 3 reach schools (i have in-state safeties).

GPA unweighted: 4.0
GPA weighted: 4.73
SAT: 2210 (M 710/ CR 710/ W 790) <--score is superscored. Taken 2 times.
ACT: not taken yet

Total of 7 AP classes taken by end of junior year
AP Scores: Biology-5 Human Geography-5
Taking Calc BC, English Language, APUSH, Chem, and Psych this year.

EC's: Freshman Tennis, then JV tennis (9,10,11) extremely competitive team, always 2nd or 3rd in the state
Model UN (10,11)-should be leadership next year
Youth Commission for the Mayor (9,10,11)-should be leadership next year
Large amount of work with a food bank in my area
Over 300 volunteer hours in various places (hospitals, city events, tennis lessons etc.)
Ethnicity: Indian
Gender: Male
Hooks?: nah

I realize my chances are low, but should I even consider applying to these schools or should I just save the application money and attend a safety or a match? Thanks for your help :)

You have a fair chance at all three of the schools. Of course, yes, they’re reaches, but they’re also within reach. Write good essays, get good recommendations, maybe try the ACT (a 1420/1600, while good, could be slightly better), and make sure to get leadership. Apply to them, because an acceptance is completely possible.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1628065-the-ultimate-chancing-thread-with-real-life-incentive.html

thanks a bunch! I chanced you back as well. Nice idea with that hahah i hope i win
anyone else willing to chance me? Thanks

Those are all reaches for you but certainly within the realm of possibility. You might want to shoot for a higher SAT score or try taking the ACT, but beyond that, just keep working hard, and write thoughtful, unique essays.

Best of luck!

@Thebeatlestoday ok thanks! Yeah, i plan on taking the ACT in April (and if i want to take it again, September). But yes, I will do my best to continue participating in extracurriculars and write outstanding essays
thanks again!

anyone else willing to chance me?

They are all reaches but you seem to have a good chances as they aren’t exceptionally selective. Now, if you said MIT or CalTech I would be a bit worried. Don’t worry - just write good essays and get good letters of recommendations and you will have a very good chance of being accepted. Good luck!

^ I agree. For top schools like NU, try to bring up your CR+M to 1500+. Your current SAT score may put you right around the average of applicants and the admission rate is only 12.9% for Northwestern this year.

@wannabefeynman and @billcsho thank you so much for the chances! Hopefully I can get in! I retook the SAT with dismal results…my only change was my writing score is now 800… so total 2220…didnt improve the ones that matter
anyhow anyone else care to chance me? Thanks again!

Writing does matter, and it’s importance depends on your field of study. If you are planning to study mathematics, science or engineering, then they would focus on the math area, but don’t worry - 2200 is a good score.

@wannabefeynman ok thank you so much! Recently I have been looking into University of Southern California, so I was just wondering if it would be easier or harder to get in there compared to the schools I have already asked about (NU, WUSTL, Vandy). According to acceptance rates, USC seems easier, but those can sometimes be deceiving so is anyone willing to chance me for USC? Thanks
