the reason I’m retaking the SAT is mainly for the math (and pull off an 800 writing if i can along with it).

I got 730 on Math I which to me seems really unacceptable for both my standards and the standards of top colleges like Stanford.

i already KNOW i can get 800 on math as i’ve done it several times, but now i just need to prove it on the real SAT.

Most of you have said that Berkeley is a “safe” or “match” choice for me so I think it’s time to push for a little more to get me looking at Ivies and top privates (stanford is my #1).

Not sure if it really shows, but my passion is taekwondo.
I really ****ed it up this year as it was my last chance to make Junior National Team and senior team trials wont happen until January of 2015…

@dougiemzd, your grades and SATs are really good. But if you’re aiming at Stanford, from what I gather about the process, do something totally unique, apart from getting grades, SAT, AP etc.

So how exactly do you find this ‘unique thing?’ Only you can decide what’s unique enough, no one else. List multiple candidates for that one unique thing. Say this to yourself: “Stanford rejected an applicant with <your unique=”" thing=""> who also had great stats such as <your scores=""> and also had things like <other stuff="" you’ve="" done="">." If such a statement sounds normal and highly possible for high schoolers applying to Stanford, your ‘unique thing’ isn’t unique enough. If it sounds rather shocking that such a rejection could occur, then you’ve found the right ‘unique thing.’ And, it goes without saying, that incase you’re showing interest in STEM majors, out of all other things, you’re the best at STEM stuff, and thus this ‘unique thing’ must be STEM related. </other></your></your>

In short, your best bet is to do something that truly stands out among the things others have done. An example would be: redesigning the LHC. LOL, kidding. That’s wayyy too much, but I guess you know what I mean.

And, ofcourse the essay: use it to win over the reader totally. Write passionately. And, make sure you talk extensively about the ‘unique thing’ in one of your essays.
