Chance at transferring into top schools

I'm a Sophomore at NJIT Honors College class of '14 majoring in Electrical Engineering with double minor in astronomy and finance. I would like to know my chances at some of the top schools such as cooper union, columbia, carnegie mellon, etc.

I didn't do so hot during my high school career, so my mind is on "i can't possibly do that" mode. And I came here to either solidify my low self-esteem or to break free from the pessimistic spirit and be more enthusiastic and passionate about my future. Bottom line, I'm kindda looking for motivation of some sort.

High school stats
- 3.8 Weighted GPA i*
- 1900 SAT i[i/i], 800 SAT2 Math 2
- AP Physics C, Calc BC, Psych, Micro
- Bunch of volunteering, leadership positions

College stats
- In honors college
- 3.75 GPA i (one C+ in english)*
- A's in ALL major-related courses i*
- Involved in an electric car project with IEEE
- Leadership position in astronomy club

Other
- Male asian.
- Low income bracket

I'm wondering if it I would have any chance whatsoever. Would I be able to get these schools to get even vaguely interested in accepting me? Also, what other schools would you suggest? Keep in mind this is a transfer application.

Thanks in advanced!

They’re worth a try, except erhps CMU, which is unlikely to give a low income transfer enough aid.

Thank you Waverly. But when you say worth a try does it mean “it’s a reach but you could try” or “it’s a match”? I really don’t know where I stand as of now.
Anyone else wanna chance more specifically/suggest schools that would be a match?

An ivy is always going to be a reach, few leave so they take very few transfers. I don’t know about Cooper, but I’d imagine that’s tough too.

Schools that are a match and will give you the money you need is a tall order. Your SAT scores a low for schools that meet need. What about your state flagship?

I lived in NJ for about 8 years now, but my permanent residency is still pending therefore I’m technically an international. I don’t know if that would affect my chances, but I am prepared to take some loans.

Aid for international transfers is practically non existent. You’d be borrowing the full cost, and that’s if you have a good co signer. Probably not worth it for an undergrad degree.

So you are saying I should just stay where I am right now?
Then what about extremely prestigious places that has good financial aid system like purdue or mit? would I have ANY chance at all?

bumpppppppp10

bumpbumpbump

Definitely a shot at Perdue, but I don’t know if they have money for intnl transfers, check their web site.
