Your chances aren’t looking too great. I know an instate student who got rejected with a better GPA and higher ACT score. And she was the president of business professionals of America.

Really, I checked out the requirements on the u of i website and thought I had a good chance.

i would say you have good chance to be accepted there, shouldnt be a real problem

It depends on the college you are applying to. For Engineering, the chances are slim, for Liberal Arts and Sciences a bit better.

I would say a high match to a low reach just because its competitive

Hello, I’m currently a senior and I was accepted into Mechanical Engineering at UIUC. They gave me a decent amount of scholarships, but I think that’s mostly because of financial need. Here are my stats:

ACT: 33 (math 36, english 36)
GPA: 4.0 (weighted)
Rank: 10%

Extra-Curriculars: Key Club, Chess Team captain, Table Tennis club founder, and that’s it
Comm. Service: 300+ hours from little activities to volunteering over the summer
Essays: Very good imo

I’m Caucasian, so no special selection or anything (I’ve heard of people getting in with 16 on their ACT because they were Hispanic, no offense intended, but that’s kind of ridiculous)

Oh and my class rigour is literally the same as yours, except senior year I took 4 AP’s instead of 5

Hey spamming other peoples’ threads aint cool… you’re a junior and there’s no rush so there’s no reason to do that bud.

Don’t listen to people saying you don’t have a good chance. You have a very good chance of getting in and I’d put my money on it. Good luck:)

You should get into DGS or any of the low-mid tier schools within UIUC. If you’re trying to get into engineering or business though I would work on that ACT score a little.

Thanks guys I really appreciate it. By the way that was not my actual ACT score just a Red BOOK practice test. Nonetheless I plan to get a 30-32. Also what is the technical name for an undecided Engineer Major

Have you taken ACT yet? If not, you are not so serious about college. May and June would be the time for AP and subject tests although subject test is not required by UIUC. What is the max scale for your UW GPA? Most schools use a 4.0 scale. If your current Red book score is 27 (average from the last several timed practice tests), you are likely to get a score around that range (sometimes lower due to the environment). It would be better if you repost this thread after you get a real score.

I take the ACT tomorrow and took a practice one in school and got a 26. And the UW G.P.A limit is 5

That convert to UW GPA of 3.36 in 4.0 scale. Is 26/27 you most recent practice score? It seems you a quite a bit away from your target score of 30-32. It may take you a few months to achieve that. If GPA 3.36 and ACT 27 is your current score, it would be a low reach for you (UIUC average GPA 3.86, average ACT 28).
Taking ACT tomorrow? Is it a State mandated one? Does it have writing? You better check if UIUC requires writing or you may need to take it again.

UIUC LAS/DGS: Match
UIUC business/engineering: Reach

The one with better stats than 3.8/27 and FBLA presidency might have applied at UIUC for business…

^ Note. His UW GPA is actually 3.36 in 4.0 scale.

Why not try the SAT? You might do better on it?

Really I heard the SAT is more difficult than the ACT. ALso my school does not offer SAT testing only ACT. Therefore it seems like a hassle…

SAT is not necessarily more difficult than ACT. It is a different style and format though. Some students may do better in one test or the other. Most students get compatible scores though. Remember both are based on curves. So you are compared with other students taking the same test. A harder or easier test does not matter too much except for careless mistakes.
Most schools would advise students to try both, at least a few practice tests. If you take both, it gives you an extra opportunity that you would not have too many attempts on one test and do not need to wait at least a month for another test.

Thanks I might look in to taking the SAT. ALthough I plan to go a college in the midwest and the ACT is popular among most colleges in the midwest.
