I really want to go to University of California–Los Angeles. It’s pretty selective (around 15%), and my grades aren’t amazing. I want to graduate HS in 2017, and I’ll probably have a 3.75 unweighted GPA and a 4.75 weighted (estimate).
Here’s a list of the courses I’ll have taken: 4 credits of gifted writing (I go to a gifted & talented arts school, majoring in writing), Adv. Algebra 1, Adv. Geometry, Adv. Algebra II, Adv. Precalculus, Adv. English I, Adv. English II, Adv. Intro to Physics, AP Bio, Adv. Chem, Adv. Physics, AP US Government, Adv. World Civilizations, Adv. US History, Gen. French I, Adv. Spanish IV, Gen. Choir,
I would be graduating after sophomore year; my normal HS grad year would be 2019.
I have only taken the SAT once, in 7th grade (1820 overall, 700 in writing, 540 math, 580 critical reading). I’m taking both ACT and SAT on June. I’ll also take the SAT Subject Test in Literature to make up for the English classes I won’t be able to take. My target for the new version of SAT is 1300 (600 math + 700 verbal), and 28 composite for ACT. I will be doing the essay on both because I want to major in Creative Writing.
My class rank, unweighted, as of my first semester of HS is 1/620 ish, with a 4.0. Weighted, I had a 4.75, around 6/620. My grades are dropping a bit though.
I have maybe four extracurriculars (Math Honor Society, Academic Team, 6 years of private voice lessons, Beta Club).
Thoughts? Do you think I might be accepted? I really want to go to this school. What test scores might I need to aim for to have a good chance at admission?
Your target for SAT/ACT is very low. You did very well getting 1820 at 7th grade and I do not understand why you can not do much better (than your targets) now? For UCLA you better get 1400+/33+ to have a decent chance.
UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
UCLA will also use the uncapped weighted UC GPA with unlimited honors points.
I agree with @uclaparent9: Test scores need to be bumped up for the best chances.
