Hey, I'm a junior in high school right now in Illinois. I really would like to get into the Wharton School at UPENN, and I know it is extremely competitive. My ACT score didn't help much either. When I took it last year, I got a 27 on my ACT. I know that's not nearly enough, but I plan on retaking it and raising it as much as I can. I am involved in a great number of organizations at my school and have been worldwide for a nationally recognized club at my high school. I have work experience and volunteer a great deal at school, my local sunday school, the hospital, and other board organizations. I know I'm not offering much with my low ACT score, but what else is looked into when offering admission at University of Pennsylvania. Are my chances that low to get in? Any advice would help =) Thanks!!

I suggest retaking the ACT. Get at least a 33, though preferably a 34.

As a reference, I too am a junior looking to apply (very possibly early decision) to Wharton next year (visited & LOVED it!). I got a 2330 SAT, will have ~4.9 GPA, am a active member in many clubs (including debate-- captain), have many volunteer hours, am in the nationally known science research class at my school (they only accept 10 kids per each grade of 400), and have won numerous awards for science/languages (latin&spanish)/other things.

All of that being said, there’s still a VERY LIKELY chance I’ll be denied, because sooo many kids who apply to the Ivy League schools have the same stats as I do. So at that level, you might want to increase your ACT a bit. Just practice a lot online (you can get great free material on the internet to study for the ACT), buy a book or 2, and try again. You may even want to look into taking the SAT, because maybe that will be a better fit for you. Try taking an online practice test of the SAT and timing yourself, then check what you would’ve gotten had it been the real test. If you find you do better on that than on the ACT, invest maybe $100 on study materials (again, you can find many great free or cheap resources online) including a book by Kaplan/Princeton Review/one of those companies, and take the test in May or June.

Good luck! Maybe we’ll both get really lucky and get in to Wharton ;)

thanks! ill try working harder to bring up my ACT score! have there been any instances that anyone knows of where they accepted students with an ACT score around my range in the Wharton school? and if so, what qualities made them stand out?

You have basically 0% chance with a 27 ACT
