Note: In sophomore year, I got a D in the first semester of AP Calculus (took PreCalculus online so I had a rough time in the beginning) followed by a B in the second semester and got a 4 on the AP Exam. The following year, I took IB Mathematics and got an A. (If this matters much)

I think you’re a really good match. Your extracurriculars and course load is very impressive and rigorous. However, your unweighted GPA is lower than the average for USC (if it is 9-11 only), and they don’t consider weighted. If the 4.78 is your UC gpa from 10-11, I think UCLA would be a match for you.

So if I wrote strong essays, would I have a solid chance at USC? Also, does USC look at mid-year grades? This way I can demonstrate a continuous upward trend in grades.

Yes you should start preparing essays really soon. USC does look at senior year 1st semester and i think at times, they will require you to send a transcript. This is because their last deadline for applying is February 1st. Just keep the upward trend and you’re good!

Your UW GPA is below the average admit by nearly .3, your standardized test scores are average for admitted students. IB is usually considered a highly rigorous academic track. At a less competitive school I’d say you’d have a very good chance but USC’s admit rate is now down below 20%, so, while I think you’ll be accepted, I’d treat SC as a bit of reach.

Also, apply by the December deadline in order to be considered for certain scholarship opportunities. Regardless of when you apply, you’ll be expected to submit mid-year and final grades (many high schools do this automatically).

So if I get grades that would boost my GPA to 3.6 (as would be seen in the mid-year report), would USC use this GPA to determine admission or my post-junior year GPA?

So they would use my grades from 12th grade to determine admission along with my 9-11 GPA? Basically, they would see an improvement in grades but would still use the 9-11 GPA.

I honestly think you’re so fine, due to the fact I know a kid that just transferred with a 2.8! I’m so serious I saw the email and all. They take a lot of people now due to the money, so with all your credentials I think you’re a shoe in.

@halcyoncxd96 Yes, my school adds one extra point for honors courses and two extra points for AP and IB courses. Would this GPA be suffice along with my other qualifications?
