I have an essay that i wrote for USC if someone wants to look it over and tell me if you think it is up to par.

lol...sorry, im a newb to this site. what does reach mean?

keep in mind i had TONS of ec's involved with football like football camp, football summer school, spring football, summer football practice...also have a job. funny thing is i wasnt even anxious about this at all until i heard from USD.

oh and how much do schools take in to consideration letters of rec? I sent in two REALLY good ones from my AP physics teacher and football coach. I actually have copies on the computer if you guys are interested

-reach is you might get in and its like a dream school... it doesn't have to be Harvard or Yale technicallly. It has to a place that would be kind of tough to get into for you personally.
-match is somewhere were you would fit fine and most likely get in
-safety is for sure get in

I say reach/match. They are really into football so they might like the football stuff. Good Luck! (USC is my dream school. I'm applying next year) :)

well that makes me feel a little better...its my dream school too but i also applied to USD and pepperdine because i love the southern california weather so much plus they're good schools that i can get into

What state are you from? It may be considered a "hook" for you if you're from some underrepresented state, since USC likes to have a diverse geographic student base...

I think you have a good shot at USC.
Congrats on your acceptances and scholarships so far.

i live in Reno, NV...we had 6 kids from my HS get accepted to USC last year (one of which being my sister, she went to CalArts instead) so that makes me think that USC thinks highly of our school.

well my sister got about a 1900 on the SAT and had a little bit higher of a GPA than myself but she played tennis for 2 years as opposed to my 4 years of football and 2 years of track and didnt have a job. she also didnt take the ACT...one of my friends who got in had a 3.6 GPA, very few (if any) AP/Honors classes but was an all american swimmer and he was promised admission when he was a sophomore. Im really not sure about the rest though. I feel i wrote a good essay and got great letters of rec...if you would be willing to take the time and read them and tell me what you think i could send them to you. They're all on my computer

^ No problem...I'm sure your essays are strong.

The only problem I see is the lower SAT score. But, your essays, letters of recommendation and extra-curriculars could overcome this. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya.

Once and if you get in, weigh the costs...I don't know if USC will be generous with grants for you. U San Diego is very expensive as is your sister's CalArts program, so maybe your parents have no problem subsidizing the cost...

The football thing might be a little trivial because you probably aren't going to play for their team, and so it's of very little use to them. usually when one plays a sport, the college would like the student to play for their team, not in USC's case, as there aren't many walk-ons at USC.

well i know im going to be getting my notification in the next few days so ill be sure to let everyone know how it turns out! thanks a bunch for your support! Oh and UCBChemEGrad....i pm'd you my stuff, if you would like to look it over. i really appreciate you taking the time to do that for me!

oh and i dont see why a 6'2" 185lb lineman cant play football for USC...theyre average lineman is only like 6'5" 300lbs ;)

I disagree. Even if he's not the caliber player to play Div 1-A football, his participation over 4 years still demonstrates strong work ethic, commitment, and dedication.

haha....yeah. i really got into it sophomore year and got up to 215 (up from 145 freshman year) and got hurt. after my injury i realized how quick things can change and i decided it wasnt worth packing on the pounds to play college.
