Chance at Vanderbilt?

Vandy is my number one school, but I don't know if my low GPA will keep me out. I know I can raise it up to make a positive trend this first semester of senior year...but my junior year was absolutely terrible...Anyone's thoughts please?? Thanks!

I go to a public high school that's well known in KY and it is ranked 29th out of 129.

Asian, male
As of beginning senior year (subject to change after this first semester)
UW GPA-3.64
W GPA-4.48
Class Rank- around a 12-15% out of 450 kids
Took over 11 AP's over my entire high school career
~I got 4 c's and 1 d...in junior year with the rest A's and B's. But before that trainwreckage I had straight A's. I know first semester senior year's gonna be all A's for me for sure.~

Is there a reason you can explain for the drop? Vandy has become extremley competitive and while your SAT’s and EC’s look very good, the drop in your junior year is going to hurt. Whatever the reason I recommemd being honest and write something about what you have learned. Vanderbilt will be a reach school, look for some match schools that also get you excited. There is more than one place for everybody and with your resume you are bound to get into a very good school. Work hard, try your best, have some fun, apply to Vandy and other school that you think will satisfy you (intellectually and socially) and next year you will find yourself in a wonderful college. Best of Luck.

Well… I had a very bad case of asthma in classes in the morning so I really couldn’t focus on my tests and I always had to leave class for my extracurriuclars…
Nonetheless, I appreciate the honest input, o dad, and I will be sure to apply to Vandy and many other places with enthusiasm.

I hope your asthma is better. On a positive note, Vanderbilt was a reach for my second son and he was accepted and is now a very happy Commodore. I know he was stressed during the application process. Try to have some fun with it. Best of Luck!

Thanks, I will!
