Chance at Wharton

So, I was wondering like what else should I do to improve the chances for Wharton other than my really bad SAT scores which i expect to improve

Race: Chinese
Gender: Male
Country: Singapore, but studying overseas
School Type: Private International, Scholarship admission only (not that posh, just to give everyone a chance thats all, but it does sound good i think)
Legacy: None

IB Grades:
Economics: 7
Chemistry:6
Maths: 6 (expect a projected 7 in senior year)
Biology: 7 (expect a 7 in senior year)
English: 6 (possible a 6/7 in senior year)
Italian: lets leave that out

Rank: None (school doesnt do that), although i would say i would be near the top/ upper average considering the courses i take in relation to the points that i have achieved

SAT 1's: 1960
M-780
W-600
R-580

I got over 2200 on all my trial test, but i did it over the course of a few hours so i guess all i need to do is to work on the timing

Extra-Curriculars:
Swimming, participated in national competitions in Singapore
NGO, member of NGO, am designing their website, and reviving several old projects that never happened
Scouts (national and International representation at grades 8,9,10)
Internship at the government ministry where i helped out with alot of big events

Volunteerism:
over 200 hours of community service at grades 9,10
consistent volunteering for grade 11 (it should amount to alot!)

Summer:
Internship at Government, Turned down a internship at a REALLY big Bank because it coincided with the Government internship, teaching a student in maths, various conferences on world economics and foreign policies during internship

Hello! I would say that your chances are very good, but I would strongly advise you to retake your SAT I (which you were planning to do anyways). Have you taken any SAT IIs yet? 2200 would be good, 2300 or more would be ideal. One advice would be to link together your extracurriculars when talking about them (make sure your interest really comes through) and get really good recommendations from teachers.

Good luck!

Your SAT1 is probably the biggest problem of all. Are you on SM1 scholarship there? I may know you lol.

SM1 Scholarship? PM me and i will tell you more if your interested…But on a whole, is there more that I would have to do? Other than the poor SAT scores?

Write stellar essays. I am pretty sure that’s how I got in.

Just improve the SAT scores more. Asians typically have high scores by default haha…Your experience is quite diverse and adds strength to your overall package.

asians typically have high scores by default…yes and that seriously sucks…

other than stellar essays and really good sat scores, anything you guys think i should polish up on to stand a chance?

More academic EC’s, maybe? Just my two cents.

Not much more OP can change if he’s applying this year.

I think Wharton wants to see a good SAT II Math score and demonstrations of interest in business, so if OP can do something about that…

well, even if i get rejected this year, i wouldn’t really mind because i can re-apply the following year courtesy of the singapore army (i have to serve my conscription so i can apply during then)…

so, taking that into consideration, anything to suggest to polish it up?

Academic EC’s: I did my EE on Economics for it, and I did research papers on several countries during my internship experience, for which I am going to send the abstracts I think. Do these help in showing your passion for it?

Ib scores: What do you think is good for it? The university guidance person at my school said at least 38/42, not including TOK and EE, which I think I will be able to make.

What exactly does Wharton want in an applicant? That is the vexing part because you see some random people go in, and you see really good people go in too…

bump? anyone?

^lol good job at elimating one more person for ED competition.

^ :P, but you can still do the october ACT and apply ED.
