What are your Extracurricular activities? your GPA is ok for Cornell and UPenn, and good for NYU and BU. However i advise you that you will need STRONG extracurriculars for Cornell and UPenn. I would say Reach for Cornell and High Math UPenn (assuming you have decent ECs)

Mainly i work two jobs to support my single mother.
Also I am a active member of my youth group.
plus I volunteer every weekend at a soup kitchen. Not much.

I think that UPenn is probably a high match (Great SAT score, by the way!), and that NYU’s definitely a match; I can see you getting in there. Cornell’s a reach, but it’s pretty much a reach for anyone I would suggest looking at some of the UCs, and maybe Emory? I’m at a loss for safety schools right now haha…if I think of some I will definitely get back to you on that. :)

I know a girl who transferred into Cornell and I would call it more of a low reach just because I think your extracurriculars are good, what with supporting your family and the volunteer work.Maybe do some more if you can find the time… I’d suggest looking at William & Mary and UVA? (both in VA)

Yeah your right, do you know what her GPA was and what her EC’s were?
Also For an EC I also interned at an Investment Bank and did an internship at a university in India (Middle Eastern Program) I studied how muslims are viewed in India.

Both of these aren’t really related to my major so I didn’t List them.

Lastly If I apply as a Anthropology major at UPENN Am I stuck in that major, because I am drawn between many majors right now
Anthro
Middle Eastern Studies
Econ.
Thanks!

Yeah i’ll definitely look into those! Any ways to improve my chances to UPenn? I want to apply as a Anthro major, but there is a likely chance I might double major in something business related.
Feel free to give any other tips! Thanks for all the help guys!

I don’t know much about the girl who transferred but I know her senior year she ONLY applied to University of Maryland college park and didn’t get in there, so she went to community college for a semester and transferred in to Cornell.

Don’t leave out EC’s just because they don’t fit with your presumed major, especially when they are such fascinating EC’s as you have. Any good solid EC’s will help at the selective colleges, whether they are directly applicable to your major or not (and they know that many kids, in fact the majority, change their major. Also, you could argue that your experience in India was a boon to your education no matter what field you finally choose!). I agree that UPenn is a high match, Cornell is a reach, and the others are matches.
