Applying into schools of Science (most likely Pre-med major)

EC:
I have played basketball competitively for 10 years and could play on a mediocre Division I team.
I am VP of a tutoring organization.
I am VP of the Student Council.
I participate in Habitat for Humanities and Relay for Life.
I am a member of National Honors Society.
I am a member of National Spanish Honors Society.
I am also working on getting my soccer coaching licence.

What are my chances for Princeton?

Typical rejected applicant here, so I’d say low. :/

You have nothing going for you except soccer. Try to get recruited I guess.

I think randombetch means basketball…

Besides your numbers being a bit sub par (I understand that your GPA isn’t actually bad and that might get taken into account) I think mainly what you’re missing is some positions in clubs. Sure you’re in NHS and student council and basketball and so forth, but those are things that lots of people are in, and it doesn’t even seem like you’re the president or captain of any of them. What I’m trying to say is, even if you’re really into what you’re doing, it’s hard for Princeton to know that. You could just be some guy who joined these things because his parents wanted him to and/or because he wanted to pad his application. I’m not saying that you’re not devoted to these organizations, but if you are you’ll need to find some way to show them.

Would Princeton recalculate my GPA like many schools do because the majority of my grades in AP classes are 97+, so I can’t fathom why I don’t have a 4.0?

The counselor writes in your GPA; says whether it’s weighted or unweighted; writes down the numerical values for an A, a B, and a passing grade; and writes in the highest GPA in your class.

Dude, the basketball helps a lot. Division I is a big deal, regardless if you are playing for Buffalo or Georgetown. But as the others have said here, I don’t detect a “theme” for you. Toss out the pre-med talk, and work from here. What are your academic interests? And where in your resume/transcript do you display this interest?

Good luck to you in your college search!

Sorry, I meant basketball.

All you need to do is get recruited and you’ll be fine.
