Chance Cal Poly SLO + UCs

SAT: math 700 reading 620 writing 700 - 1320/2020 (retaking)

UW GPA: 3.71
W GPA: 3.91
CPoly GPA: 3.90
UC GPA: 3.89

Rank: don't know, probably top 10%

Engineering major.

I have a pretty rigorous course load but only 3 APs since my school doesn't have that many. They are AP environmental science, AP statistics, and AP us history. Never got a C in any classes, just Bs and As. My junior grades were a lot better than my sophomore grades.

My ECs are pretty good and I'm sure my essays and teacher recommendations will be good as well.

Also, for UC GPA, do they count the AP classes I'll be taking? I was using their GPA calculator and it said they use 12th grade honors points...or did I misread. If they do, my UC GPA would be 3.95.

In state.

I had a higher SAT (2310) but similar GPA as you and I was in-state when I applied to UCs.
I got into UC Davis and UCSB and was rejected from UCSD, UCLA, and UC Berkeley.
My chances for you are:
Cal Poly SLO: IN
UC Davis: Match
UCSB: Match
UCSD: High Match/Low Reach
UCLA: Reach
UC Berkeley: Reach

Thanks for the input! Anyone else?

Your gpa is a little on the low side for SLO because you want to be an engineering major. I would say

Cal Poly: reach
UCLA: high reach
UCB: high reach
UC Davis: low reach/high match
UCSB: match
UCSC: match
UC Merced: In
UC Riverside: In
US Irvine: low reach/match
UCSD: reach

Of course this all depends on your ECs. Can you give a little more info on them? Do you have any leadership positions, show interest in engineering, summer activities, etc.?

REACHES FOR allllllllll!1!1!1!1?

Well let’s see…

Volunteered at the local library for 50+ hours
Volunteered at the Aerospace Museum for about 50 hours
Charity service (including school club and community service) about 40 hours
Competed in a few engineering competitions
Will join a software “hacking” competition my senior year

I have a HUGE passion for engineering. Taking things apart and putting them back together, building new things, experimenting, 3D modeling…I love them all.

My unique feature is that I’m a professional music producer. I’ve made about 50 songs, including remixes and sampled songs. In total I have about 200,000 views on YouTube. It may not seem a lot, but I am RARELY criticized. I’ve had a job offer from a record company who makes music for MTV, Discovery, CBS, Bravo, and a whole bunch of other channels. Wasn’t hired because of my age.

Also, my teachers LOVE me. So I’m positive I’ll have tons of amazing teacher recommendations.

Thanks! I’m just curious to see where I stand. :)

only two people? bump!

UC’s and CSU’s dont take reccomendations…

UCLA and Berkeley are for sure reaches, and UCSD is a small reach
You should get into Davis and Irvine
UCSB and SLO you got a solid shot, but not as high as Davis cuz those 2 are really good at engineering.
