Chance @ CAS...

I'm sorry that I created a chances thread on this board, but I'm really afraid of getting rejected from NYU. I was just wondering if anyone here would mind telling me what you think my chances are of getting into CAS. I didn't get into GSP, and I called to make sure they had everything for my application... because my school is notoriously bad at sending transcripts out.

So... my stats:
SAT I: 1420(C-720, M-700)/2100(W-680)
ACT:32
SAT II:Lit.: 710
SAT II: Math IIC: 610
SAT II: US History: 680
AP US History:4
AP Calculus BC: 4

GPA: about 3.8 uw, 4.2 w
I've taken three years of honors English, two years of advanced math, and two AP classes (A in US History, C+ in Calculus... my only C)
I'm taking four AP classes this year, human phys (which is being taught at college level...), independent study, and the hardest band class offered (wind ensamble)

Extracurricular:
Marching Band- Grades 9-12
Band Staff- Grades 11-12
NHS- Grades 10-12
Church Orchestra- grade 12
Latin Club- Grades 11-12

I know that my extracurriculars are weak, but marching band takes up much of my time. I tried to join the academic team my sophomore year, but I was told that marching band would interfere too much.

Good recommendations
I used to like my essay/short response... but I recently looked at them again and now I'm worried. I mean, they're not horrible. My essay's okay. I just don't really how I responded to the short response anymore...

Thanks for anyone's opinions.

You're in.

good chance, should be accepted

You should be fine, no worries ;),

So... another few questions... my AP Calculus grade isn't very good. How much will that hurt my chances? Does NYU create the GPA from every grade that you get every quarter, or is it just the final grades that count? I'm sorry to be asking so many questions, I'm just really stressed out.

its just the final grade the counts..but the fact that you took bc calc as a junior is pretty impressive so i wouldnt worry! relax you are def in

Thanks, superman.

I actually have one final question... It's the last one, I promise! Anyway, NYU goes through and recalculates everyone's GPA, right? I mean I assume they would, since their GPA scale is different that the one they use at my school...
For example, at my school, an A+ is a 4.5. Using this scale, my GPA is slightly higher (about a 4.0 uw). I just recalculated my GPA using NYU's scale (A+/A=4.0), I've got about a 3.76 GPA

lol ok so what part of that comment is a question?

(ps dont forget nyu only counts academic/foreign language classes grades 9-11)

Oh! Sorry about that. I guess that isn't really much of a question... Anyway, does NYU recalculate everyone's GPA?
And thanks, scrapnel. Those GPAs in my previous post are without band/PE/any other electives.

np =) i would assume that if they only consider academic classes they would have to recalculate all the grades. plus, they look at your UNweighted gpa (which also would require re-calculation from most high school transcripts), and then they look at how many/what kind of honors/ap/ib/etc classes separately. at least thats how ive understood it.

Alright. Thank you!

about the same as me, gpas a point higher, not in band but a lot of other ec's, applied gallatin...this is reassuring. good luck

Well... I just got my class rank. I'm about number 19 out of 458 students. Top 4%

you'll get in.

now please stop freaking out! :)

I'm so sorry. I'll stop posting on this thread now... So sorry to keep freaking out!

poor kid. don't be sorry--just gain some confidence!
