Chance Chance Baby. So you think you can Chance? Stanford, Penn, Duke, Vandy!

Howdy everyone! I'm a rising Senior asian male at a competitive public school in Pennsylvania that usually send around 5 kids to Penn every year and 5 more to other top institutions. I'm pumped for college and would be ready to go to any of these schools, but I've always dreamed about going to Stanford (c'mon the mascot is a tree, i'm no tree-hugger but I'd be a tree lover any day if it meant Stanford):
Stanford (EA)
Upenn
Duke
U Michigan
Cornell
Vanderbilt
Pitt Honors

My stats are:
GPA: 4.15 (4.25 is an A+ 4.0 is an A)

Recommendations
2 teachers for the 2 hardest classes our school offers that will write very emotional ones (one of them cried when I asked her)
My Principal requested to write mine for Duke since he is an alumnus

Chances? C'mon you can chance if you want to, you can leave your friends behind, cause if your friends don't chance and if they don't chance they ain't no friends of mine.

You may not care about tests, but the colleges do. As an Asian candidate from the mid Atlantic that is not top of class, you may want to reconsider how much you care if you’re serious about top schools. How many of those kids getting into Penn have a connection?

I’m liking all the musical references haha.

I agree with Redroses for sure, test taking is very very important. But since you have a 2240 Composite already, it’s not a huuggee deal or anything… well, you are Asian and they do typically judge Asians harder in terms of numbers.

You have a good shot. Decent EC’s, leadership, etc. too. It will probably come down to essays, teacher recs., and if they see anything “special” in you etc. But once again, good shot at all of them. I’d say definite admit to Pitt and UMich, low reach for Penn, Vandy, and Duke, and high reach for Stanford.

In response to RedRoses the majority of the Penn admits do not have any relation to Penn, but we do have a regional bias since our school is right outside Philadelphia.

How could you not chance a guy who puts Safety Dance in his post?

I say, if you like Stanford, UPenn, and Duke, check out Harvard, Yale and Princeton. If you like them, you might want to hedge your bets and apply to a couple of those as well. I only suggest this because when I was a rising Senior, Stanford and UPenn (Wharton) were by far my two favorites–and as soon as I actually visited the schools, Yale shot to the top for me. Are you a three-sport varsity athlete then? If so, your application is going to be extremely solid all-around. I would say you actually have a good chance of getting into one or two of HYPS if you applied to all of them. My guess is Duke could go either way, and UPenn is only probable, but you’ll probably get into the rest of your schools.

Update/Edit: I’m also taking AP Computer Science but that must’ve slipped my mind when I wrote the original.
SAT II Scores:
Math II-800
US History-730
Lit-690
(I was planning on doing the best of lit but I didn’t do that many practice tests, I just did alot of reading of other prep material and so when I got to the test I thought there were only 50 questions not 60, so I boarded the failboat for those last 10 that I didn’t see.)
Thoughts on retakes? I’m more than positive my lit score can go up like 7 points raw score. It won’t be in time for my Michigan app.

Again another update:
ACT 35
I’m not Michael Buble no need to save the last chance for me!

ur in at michigan. for sure. i know any asian who got in with a 21 ACT and like no ECs so with a 35 ur in.

pretty good chances at all of them

Sorry I’m replying late on this:

Don’t submit your 2240 at Stanford, unless you want a deferral. (Hopefully you didn’t have it sent when you took the test.) Retake the test in October, if you still want a shot at Stanford. I don’t think Penn is a lock, either. You’re in at the other schools. I’m not trying to be heavy, I’m your brother…

Ayo, I’m not retaking the SAT. I’m just gonna send my 35 ACT, and there’s no way I’d retake a 35.

you are a really strong candidate for all except stanford which has a crapshoot admissions  good luck

Stanford (EA)- High Reach only because it is EA
Upenn- Mid Reach
Duke- IN
U Michigan-Safe
Cornell-In
Vanderbilt-In
Pitt Honors-Safe
Can you chance me back

Good ECs, what’s your class rank?

I hope you didn’t apply EA to Stanford, as you’re sure to get rejected there.

^joke? (I hope)

you have a really good profile man and tho stanford is tough SCEA (I’m doing it too), you’ve got a good shot at it for sure

Thanks for the chances, I’m top 5% which is the highest rank our school releases.
My ACT 35 also had a 12 on the essay, if that makes a difference at all.

Yup, your ACT score will help you significantly. I’d expect a rejection or deferral for Stanford SCEA. Have you already applied? Still, you could luck out and get accepted.

10char…
