I'm thinking about applying to 1 really good school for regular decision. Either CMU or Cornell. Basically, I only have enough money for one more application fee, and I don't want to waste like 80 bucks on CMU if i never had a chance to begin with.

Of course you know that many of the most important parts of your application, like your recs and essays, don’t appear in chance threads. However, from everything you’ve mentioned it seems like you’re on target for CMU, and I would guess Cornell as well. If you think you’d want to attend a top school, then you may want to apply to more than just 1, since the decisions can be arbitrary and $80 is sort of insignificant in comparison to the potential difference between two colleges. However, as much as CC likes to fawn over top schools, it’s not a given that a top school is a better for everyone.

I chance out of 10; the higher your #, the lower your chances.

CMU ECE -7/10
CMU CIT General - 6/10

Your app is solid in everything but SAT scores. There isn’t much time left, so focus on writing a great supplement. Good luck!

Thanks for the information, I got what I needed.
Would it make a difference that my SAT break down is 730 CR, 740 Math, 690 WR?

At least your math score is above 700, which is where it should be. Make sure that your essays really shine. To have a really good shot at getting into ECE, you should make sure that your essay truly reflects this demonstrated interest. I’d say you’ve got a pretty good shot at getting into CIT though!
