@Lebron267 I assume you are in state?
With engineering being a highly competitive major at UT, even with high test scores, being out of the top 7% makes it a reach. Not impossible, but a reach. Do have safeties in your quiver to fall back on if UT doesn’t work out.
With your scores and if the rest of your application, you may likely be offered the wait list. It won’t be for engineering or any other STEM major.
You will be offered CAP and PACE.
It happened this way for several applicants who were National Merit Commended last year and had great credentials but lacked being auto admit and that was top 8%.
Do everything that is optional for your application file. Good Luck to you.
@Thelma2 I’ve heard that ECE is one of the easier engineering majors to get into at UT because of the high dropout rate. While the ones that were more difficult, such as Biomedical, Chemical, and Petroleum, rejected National Merit Commended students even in the top 7%. I’ve also seen plenty of students in ME and ECE with lower stats than mine.
Also under curiosity after reading your son’s statistics: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/19608269#Comment_19608269
What major was he denied from?
Also yes I’m in state and I’ve already been admitted to Texas A&M and UT-Dallas. So those are my safety schools.
Thanks for the advice.
@Lebron267 He was denied from Mechanical first choice and Aerospace second choice at UT. On that thread, it is not listed his5 years German (speaks, reads, and writes fluently) 2 years as section leader in band, 4 years wind symphony band, All City Band 6 years, All Region, area and state awards in percussion Solo and ensemble. He also is an avid tuner and drag races.
Good Luck.
@Thelma2 I got accepted into my major (Electrical and Computer Engineering) on December 19th!!! I’m so excited. Thanks for the help!!!
Congratulations @Lebron267 Very happy for you.
@Lebron267 Would you mind sharing your complete stats, ECs, etc. I have a similar SAT and rank as you and was wondering how the remainder of your app looked. Thanks and congratulations.
