Plenty of scientific awards in High School. Intel Talent Award. However they were all Chinese National competitions. So kind of not well-known, although they were extremely competitive.

Right now in a business professional fraternity. Holding a director position.

Please help to estimate my chance....

Also, more important. Do you think it is okay to mention my frat in my essays? It plays a important role in my life. (30hours/week last semester)
Or should I mention it as a business club?

Thank you!!

What are your SAT scores? All of these schools require them for transfers. Also, what’s your HS GPA? That will probably be more important than your college GPA.

Harvard is just impossible to get into as a transfer, so I don’t think you’ll get in there. (To be brutally honest, I’d suggest to not even bother applying.)

Columbia is also really tough, so I’d consider it a high reach for you.

UChicago seems to be unpredictable; that is, it varies between very difficult and virtually impossible in terms of transfer admissions difficulty each year. Regardless, it’s a high reach for you.

UPenn – if you’re applying to Wharton – is probably as competitive as Columbia. If you’re applying to the college, it’s still a pretty big reach.

Writing about your frat in your essay is fine if you’re really involved in it – actually it’s a good thing.

thank you for replying!
and sorry for missing those points…My sat was not legit…2100. CR is only 590. WR 710. Math800. sat subjects are math2 800 chemistry800 physics790

HS GPA is 93/100…it’s completely different from US education system…i would say that I made a lot of efforts in it…but really don’t know hot the admissions office gonna think about it…

ehhh. then maybe i should just quit applying for Harvard…?

I think you have a good change with UChicago. The others are reaches. If I had to put them in order of your best chances, I’d say:

UChicago

Penn

Columbia

Harvard

haha nice illustration.

i just sent out the official school report today…
i don’t know whether I should do harvard now…i think Yale may be a better shot…
but the deadline is very close…

maybe I should just apply to these three schools?

btw…because of the hard workload of UCB…i haven’t started the harvard application… i almost finished UChicago one. Other two’s deadlines are both March 15th.

Harvard, Yale, and Stanford are just absurdly difficult to transfer to. (Each accepts about 2-3% of all applicants.)

If you really want to transfer, you should consider a school that is more transfer-friendly. Some good ones are Cornell, Northwestern, and Rice.

I just feel that Berkeley, Cornell and Northwestern are about pretty much the same…

^
I wouldn’t say they are the same in terms of prestige, but the gap between Cornell/Northwestern and Berkeley certainly isn’t huge.

If you’re intent on transferring to one of the top-10 schools, then your best option may be to wait until next year to apply. That way you’ll have a more established college record, and schools will put less weight on your SAT score.

how about apply this time and if I get denied then apply as a junior transfer again?

ooops, thank you so much for replying !!! appreciate it!

You should definitely apply to UChicago. I think you have a good chance.

Thanks! I just found that my math teacher got his PhD from Uchicago and he will probably sign his name on my instructor’s recommendation for me, since I think my GSI knows me better.

btw, my father has been working on a science project with a professor in Uchicago along with some other schools’ professors. And I got to know this professor for over three years. He wrote a recommendation for my freshman application. Do you think I should request him to provide additional recommendation for me? Or it is trivial?

Thank you very much!

I would absolutely try to get a LOR from him if possible. It can only help!

On a side note, my math professor is also a UChicago PhD. As is my econ professor that wrote me a LOR :)

cool! where did u transfer to? and from?

honestly i dont see anything special about your stats for harvard/yale…are you good at any sports? i know many rowers who transfered into ivies by recruitment /coaches nudging them in etc…

I got the national first place science innovation award for adolescent.
the intel youth talent award.

but i guest that’s just not legit enough…maybe I should just quit the harvard application.

what do you think regarding my chance of getting into penn Uchicago or Columbia?

@beyondtheword - I’m applying to Vanderbilt and Northwestern. At this time I do not want to reveal where I’m currently going to school (for anonymity) but I will surely make it public if and when I transfer. I will say that it’s a tier 1 university in Chicago.

In hindsight, I probably should have applied to UChicago as well but considering that Vandy and NU are more transfer-friendly, I felt more comfortable applying to those respective schools. If, for any reason, it doesn’t work out (such as being rejected to both), I may consider UChicago for the fall of 2012.

@ChicagoBears
do you think I should develop my essay on my business fraternity experience? Since I feel Chicago is really academic concentrated and may do not like fraternity things…
but I spent about 40hours/week on this pledging process…and that was almost my entire college life last semester…
