Chance - ED/HEOP

Okay - I want to know my chances for NYU. I believe my only chance to get accepted is my early decision. Intereste3d in Majoring in Political Science through CAS.

GPA- 3.3 (UW) I don't know weighted yet but my school going to calculate that this week. I'm thinking it should go up .2-.5 points due to alot of honors/AP classes I've taken. HEOP minimum needed was 3.0 GPA.

SAT - Taking Oct. 4. For HEOP, they said the minimum needed was 1000 on the SAT.
PSAT- got a 1100 on the SAT with reading/math so hoping I get higher then that Oct. 4.

SAT2- Taking Spanish and US History in November 1. Both are my forte.

EC-
Volunteered at Gurwin Nursing Home - 11th
Select Orchestra - Viola - 9-12
NYSSMA - 9-11th grade
Sales Associate at Staples - worked 40 hours in Summer and working 20 hours during school.

I think that I meet the requirements for the HEOP programs because my mom supports 3 children in her house with a 20,000 income. The HEOP requirements for 3 children in a household by a single parent was 25k, so I qualify for that.

I was wondering whats my chances in getting in? Even If I get GPS'ed I'll be happy. For HEOP program they require less of what NYU avg. (3.7 GPA, higher SAT reading/math,ect..) for low income families. So do I stand a good chance of getting through in that way?

NYU is my dream school so I'm willing to do the binding contract of ED.

NYU is considered to have the WORST Financial aid program in America. Even for the needy they rarely give out any more than 20k (considering the 40k+ cost to attend). I don't know much about the HEOP program, but I will say that I would suggest against EDing to a school in which money is an issue.

heop is designed for low-income applicants. nyu is likely to give out financial aid for these applicants. financial aid (scholarships) is generally gave to applicants great academics and financial need. not sure it has to be HEOP but since HEOP min. GPA is 3.0, im sure they have some aid for HEOP students. doesn't make sense to have that HEOP program then. i wouldnt worry about it. if nyu is truly what you want, I say go for it.

btw the student newspaper said nyu will increase financial aid but MAKE it more needy-based. that means lower middle class students wont get any but truly needy students will get it. btw, i know one who has scholarships from NYU (more than half the tuition paid by Stern scholarship and the university scholarship itself) and not even HEOP. the only bad thing is you got to retain a min. GPA. which he could not maintain (just blame partying)
