I understand that my gpa is really low, but does would it prevent me from being accepted?

Any constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated.

As you already pointed out your GPA is the major area of concern, and being Asian doesnt help either. The middle 50% is 3.71-3.98, but judging by your high SAT scores it may be excused if you have a good class rank or can somehow show that your school is simply difficult with grading. Your above-average ECs and SATs definitely put you in range tho. Make sure you show interest, which is what Emory emphasizes A LOT. Their supplemental app. asks you to write an essay about why you want to come here and asks you to list any contacts you have with Emory, part of the app that will be crucial in showing interest. Applying ED by itself already shows your interest in coming here and your mediocre gpa won’t hold you back if you do. Overall I’d say a match for ED and slight reach for RD.

Hey Im a new accepted freshmen and I also had low gpa and similar SAT scores and also I’m an asian. As long as you really show that you want to go to Emory and write an appealing essay I think you have a shot at it especially since your applying ED. You have great EC so that bumps you up as well. Get a good recommendation and show your motivation!

Thanks for your advice. Is there any place where I can indicate that my school has some deflation, or do I just put that in my essay? Could I possibly see your supplemental essay spikyhairy? It would be extremely helpful to see an accepted essay…

^You can either have your guidance counselor mention it in his/her rec or just mention it in the additional info. area on ur common app. Just don’t do it in ur essay.

How should I go about with my supp essay? Would it be better to talk about a life experience that taught me certain morals which makes me want to attend Emory or talk about the certain opportunities that are available at Emory? I’m trying to find an angle that doesn’t sound cliche, any suggestions?

^^your school should have a profile that they send to colleges with your transcript; it will put your GPA in context if you don’t have a class rank…

AP’s/ honors? Emory really likes to see rigor…
