Chance For A Junior!!!!!!!!!!!! Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

My old thread didn't get attention so I tried to get an exciting Title :).

Location: South Florida (but middle class)

White Male

Rank: 7/340 at a very competitive high school (ranked 3 by Newsweek)

SATs: Not known yet, but going to a tutor so expecting at least a 2100 by the time I apply.

Very rough year. Plan to write an essay or something about it, but I don't think colleges really look at freshmen year grades. ( 4 Pre-IB classes, 2 honors classes, one regular class, which was my elective)

IB diploma candidate

Junior year schedule:
AP English Literature
IB Chemistry 2

Colleges:
Ivies, Northwestern, John Hopkins, NYU, MIT. Stanford, UChicago, Washington University in St. Louis

I do plan on applying to safeties.

Oh and I'm not sure if these mean much, but...

Predicted AP Scores:
Calculus AB - 5
Statistics - 4
U.S. govt - 5
English - 4
Art History - 3

and I forgot to change I'm #6 not #7. I really don't think it makes much of a difference if at all.

you're in.

only because im 6th weighted, 7th unweighted in my class and i found that amusing about you.

sorry that its not the answer you're looking for =(

wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo yay!!!!!!!! lol :).

bump.......

Ivies- Big reach (They are for everyone, and your Bs hurt you a little)
Northwestern- Match (with a 2150+ on the SAT and a good rank)
John Hopkins- Match (with a 2150+ on the SAT and a good rank)
NYU- Match
MIT- Reach (if you do some research your chances of admission go way up)
Stanford- Reach
UChicago- Reach (it's all about the essays)
Washington University in St. Louis- Match (with a 2150+ on the SAT and a good rank)

Any safeties?

I think your rank makes up for your grades. All it proves is that your school is competitive. But let me be clear:

YOU HAVE TOO MANY EC's

I highly doubt that you are actually committed to all of those clubs. It is typical laundry list syndrome, where you just have so many different EC's that are in so many different interests that it fails to show your passion for math. Tailor your focus, and you will be fine.

To smart.cookie: My safety is UF. UF accepts almost everyone from my school.

To sevitagen: I know what your saying, but I honestly commit to all the clubs I'm in (except French Club lol). I love swimming and water polo. They're like a passion of mine(hence swim2daend :)). I'm also an Enviromentalist. I seriously help out as often as I can. Next year, I plan to go out of the country to South America and help save the rainforests. And, my last huge passion is MATH!!!!! I absolutely love math!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, I prove formulas like the integral of ln(x) and integrals of trig functions for fun. :)

Are you at Suncoast? I heard someone from there got into MIT a couple years back.

Funny to see another passionate swimmer here. Although I don't understand what the county level is--is it just regular swim meets? It begins at districts, goes to regionals, then to states (unfortunately I only make it to regionals).

In addition, I would say only take the SAT Math IIC (the higher level), not both. It's simply redundant to take both. Also study the format of the chemistry subject test--the true-false section is absurd.

If you were devoted to math, sports, and the environmental causes, that would be fine.

But then you have things like Law Week, French Club, Anti-Cheating Club, Big Brothers/Sisters, student council. All of which are admirable, but somewhat beside the point of your main interests.

bump...... need more than 1 real evaluation :)

to give u a real sense of evaluation, here's what I think
Some of the posters are right: your B's are a little disappointing
and Ivies will be a reach (as it is for anyone)

Ivies look at competitions a lot, especially if you are willing to pursue math.
It is a little weak that u haven't actually qualified for AIME or USAMO
or have participated and won some competitions such as
David Essner (I live in South Florida too, so I know the math climate here.)

Another weak spot is ur SAT scores.
If you really want a top IV, such as HYP, you will need at least a 2200 (at the very very least).
Another deciding factor is ur ethnic background.

If you are an asian male, then I am sorry to say that you will be competing with a lot of people in your area with better numbers than you have (not to say that that will deter you from getting in whereever you want to go)

If you are white/hispanic, then you have a better chance
If you happen to be black, you will have an amazing chance of getting in, noting South Florida's demographics.
Even being hispanic will help tremendously.

Ya i'm white, but unfortunately not hispanic or black lol.
