Chance for a merit-based scholarship at GW?

Hey everyone,

I'm thinking of applying to George Washington University. I really like GW, especially its location and curriculum, but I don't think I'd be able to front 50K a year for what is essentially a safety school. Unless of course, I could get one of those merit-based scholarships. My question to you is, would I be eligible for one of those (based on my statistics) and how much could I probably get? Do I have to apply separately for a GW scholarship or do they consider it with my regular application? Anyone who knows, I would greatly appreciate it. Here are my stats, not great, but I think I could at least get accepted:

SAT I (2250) - M: 720, CR: 770, Wr: 750
SAT II - Math II: 730, US History: 770, Spanish: 700 (RETAKING!!!)
GPA - UW: 4.0, W: 5.25
Class Rank - 3/550ish
Most rigorous course-load at a good public school in South Florida
APs (8 so far): four 4s and four 5s
ECs (not great): 500 volunteer hours, debate, political activism, etc.
Hooks: possible URM (half Hispanic), geographic diversity, income below 100K?
Essays/Recs: Not done yet, but looking somewhat bleak so far.

bump 10char

Good, good chance imho, but I don’t believe GW is very generous with merit aid, at least they didn’t make it sound like that in visits and brochures. You would qualify for some need though if you’re below 100K. They automatically consider you for merit aid when you apply btw.

ok great thanks, that’s what I wanted to know

GW is actually very generous with “merit” aid, only because their merit aid is need-aware. The better you are as an applicant and the more financial need you have, the more money you’re going to get.

very helpful, thank you
