I'm a Canadian citizen, so my grades have always been in percentages and I haven't found one way that all schools convert percentages to GPA. But I'll try to summarize as best I can: ~90% HS average (~4.0 GPA), currently studying engineering at a school in Canada known for its rigor. I'm actually applying as a student of Arts and Science though (I'm making a fairly large major change, which is why I'm looking at other school options). I'm not switching because I can't handle engineering, but moreso because I'm not as interested in it as I used to be and don't see myself in an engineering career. I can say this with some conviction because I have had many internships while here. I think these internships set me apart from the average applicant as well; I've worked in a lab in the US and at one of the biggest research hospitals in Canada. My grades are pretty good (by engineering standards), but I'm not sure how they match up. I currently have about an 82% cumulative average (~3.7 GPA, although it might be lower since a couple of my marks have a large variance above and below this average). 2200 SAT (I could probably get higher but that's what I'm working with). Fairly involved on campus in student societies, writing for the school paper, technical and mathematics competitions. I can also write very well (not to sound conceited, but it's a strength of mine, probably moreso than math), so I think my essays would be a strong point.
