Opinions+suggestions?

Thanks!

One thing to consider...I got a D in Ap chemistry will that screw any chance of getting in? I got a 720 on the Chemistry subject test though..

Would I have a good chance with regular decision or should I apply early decision?

Your GPA is too low. Bring it up to a 3.7 and you’ll be competitive. That being said, I’d go ahead and apply because you have a high SAT. And, ED might help you out if you are truly committed to BC (and are not in need of financial aid).

Early decision is not offered, only early action is and I can’t comment on that because I’m not familiar enough. As quoted on their website, however: “Early Action at Boston College is actually a more competitive admission process than regular decision.”

As always, get a second opinion on what I’m saying.

Your GPA may be a little bit low, though I’m not sure. According to College Board (which I believe gets its data from the common data set), 79% of the first year class was in the top 10% of their graduating class.

Your ECs are strong. If you have the time between now and the time you apply to participate in/make/create something spectacular, take it.

Write exceptional essays that say something about you in a unique and interesting way. Have them checked multiple times and have multiple people comment on them.

Make sure the teachers you are going to ask for your LORs have enough information to write an informed and personal letter.

SAT scores look to be more than fine (based on 2009 data), depending on what your subscores were, you look to be about 75th percentile.

yeah retake i guess. too late now to worry. if the rest of your transcript is strong, should be alright. i think, if i remember correctly, there’s an additional information section on common app, maybe mention it there. otherwise, no use concerning yourself over it

The biggest liability is if you planned on a chem major. The competition won’t have this pothole. Who’s writing your LoRs? If possible, you want someone to offer some context for the D. (Is there a good reason?) Your GC can mention your gpa without the D, in his/her rec letter.

Why not try? Unless you are considering other schools that don’t let you apply to more than one early choice. BC would let you know before 12/25, in time to complete any RD apps and their EA is non-binding. If they decline, but feel you are “competitive,” they will swing you to their RD pool. Just make sure you are fully informed about finaid, if you need it. BC commits to meeting “full demonstrated need,” but they will calculate that based on their own private forumula, based on the CSS Profile.

Do you think I have a good shot? Or do you think it’s a long shot? Thanks for the replies and insights. The lab I’m working at Yale will also be submitting a rec for me think that’ll help?

Major? If it’s STEM it will depend on the competition in the early pool. They may also try to grab a few extra kids outside New England. It’s worth a shot if you aren’t bumping some other school you love equally that doesn’t allow more than one early app. Your UW gpa isn’t what some will have- sounds like you have a mix of B’s and A’a? Is this because it’s a rigorous hs or ? Do you have a better weighted yet? Your ECs are great. Need a great essay- and answers to any short or supp questions. And work on those LoRs. Good luck. ps. do not omit trainer at the hosp-IME, that’s unique.

Hey so I plan on going into Dental after undergraduate. I do indeed have a rigorous schedule-all honors and ap except for band and gym. I don’t think my school does a weighted gpa. Do I have good, or any chance at getting in BC early action?

EA doesn’t help that much and it’s restrictive (can’t apply anywhere else EA). But if you want to apply, give it a shot. Maybe wait to RD and get that GPA up a bit.

How will my chance be with the D in AP Chem if I really ace the first trimester of senior year to boost my gpa? I also heard alot of community service helps with Catholic school, no sure how much though.
