Chance for BC

Rising Junior who is nervous by college application process. Please Help

Stats:

GPA: 3.9 unweighted right now, will probably rise to about 4.2 - 4.4 weighted (no quality points given for Honors courses at my school) by end of senior year.

SATs: Have taken them, 2000-2100 range (never studied, hopefully will go up with studying, getting older, prep classes), no SAT II’s yet

Classes: 4 honors Freshman (Max number of honors and no AP’s offered) and Sophmore Year with 1 AP(Max number of honors and only one AP offered sophomore year), Will be taking all IB classes junior year and senior year.

EC’s:
-Have taught at a Religous School for 3 years, will work for 2 more years;
-Heavily involved in theater at my school: acted, lighting and sound design, SM, Directed shows,
-CAPPIES program (High school theater awards), had reviews picked for publication in local papers, nominated for acting award, Will be Lead Critic at my school,
-Tennis, Swim, and Dive Team over the summer as well as for local teams (not school though I don’t have the time),
-taking summer classes at Ivy,
-volunteering at a hospital for 4 years, other volunteer work (helped build house for poor in community),
-internship at JHU laboratory over the summer,
-maybe more stuff in next couple of years.
-Science fair project
-Received Academic Letter and Varsity Letter in swimming (cannot do it next year)
-School award for achievement in visual arts for theater stuff

Ranking: Top 7% this year, though expected to rise at very competitive public high school (top 50 in nation according to newsweek)

Legacy at BC: Entire side of the family went there, related to a former professor and former head of a major department at BC who still works and consults for the university.

If you could chance me and tell me ways to improve my ap that would be great.

You have a great chance. What state are you from? I’ve been told you have a better chance coming from Iowa or Montana, than Massachusetts - that being said, you have a great chance coming from any state.

If anyone else can answer this I would really appreciate it. I will chance you back.

Your GPA and ECs look great, and your SAT score isn’t bad at all for a rising Junior. I’d say you have a great shot at admission.

Everything looks great, you stand a good chance. With that said, remember that the whole process is a crapshoot, this coming from someone who got deferred EA and waitlisted RD (going to Cornell next year). I had very similar stat’s to you but really if you arent what theyre looking for to fit in their “ideal class” then theres not much you can do. Focus on your essays, take you SAT’s again if you have only done them once. Get solid grades first semester next year and get involved in your EC’s. Youll look back on the whole process this time next year and be glad it’s all over. Good luck.

My guess is in. Just cause your entire family went there doesn’t mean you’ll love it too. Make sure you look around and don’t become adamant on one school

I’d say you have an excellent chance, but as was stated before, it is a crap shoot. My S finally got in from the wait list with less stellar stats than yours. 1980 SAT, 31 ACT and a 3.9 unweighted, with so so ECs. He did have 5s on his AP tests but I don’t know if they factor that in. I must say, speaking as a mom, the essay was pretty great.

Your profile looks pretty good. Quick perusal at College Board Search shows that your near the upper end of the middle 50%tile, (which I guess means you’re near the 75th%tile).

Average acceptance rate is around 27%, with your stats and the legacy, I’m thinking your chances are much stronger than that.

Good Luck.

I don’t know if this changes anything but my GPA is actually 4.0 UW and 4.1 W by next year (I found out that you can drop middle school courses in my school district if it doesn’t keep you from graduating and my only B was in French I in middle school).

anyone else
