Thanks again guys. I really want to go to a prestigious school that still encompasses my personality and whatnot. Are there any other prestigious universities that I would have a shot at? I appreciate it.

UC GPA allows you to add in 8 semesters of UC approved weighted grades from soph and junior year. Average UC GPA at Cal and LA is above 4.2. Unweighted GPA is used at most private colleges, but they pay close attention to class rigor as do UCs.

If you’re UC oriented, try UCSD or UCD. You’re next to garunteed for davis.

what about UCSB? Or is that not very highly regarded?

UCSB is ranked 6 out of the 9 UC’s. Definitely a match.

Gotcha. I think I would be afraid of going there though just because I would never get over the fact that Im not in the #1 or #2 UC school, ya know?

mavericks, here are the stats on the percentage of California Residents who graduate in the UC system. you still have a chance for admission even to UCB and UCLA in my opinion. but it is very competitive. and UCSB is a great school too, if you can get in there. UCSB is ranked ten, in the top ten public schools in the untied states by US News and World Report. it is very competitive to get into UCSB, and any UC is superb. it will be less competitive for you to apply to private ivy league schools because you are not a resident of the UC state. and private schools like Yale can admit more non residents. good luck!

^ it is possible that some graduates became residents. not sure. there are more charts available if you check the UCLA link i posted above, maybe those stats are more accurate?

Ok gotcha. Thanks for the stats. Have any of you been to Berkeley? I’ve seen campus photos and its beautiful, but is it like USC where you don’t want to ever leave the confines of the campus because its so ghetto and crime-infested? Thats what makes me favor UCLA over Berkeley right now, but I actually don’t know what the area around UC Berkeley is like.

bump…

No UC is more competitive than any ivy, no matter where you live. Not even close. Average unweighted GPAs and SAT score averages are much higher at ivies and their peers, and ECs are at a much higher level.

Can you afford full pay? NYU, UCB, and UCLA will not be meeting need, or anywhere close to it.

They don’t give financial aid whatsoever?? Obviously there’s scholarships though right

The only thing you’ll get as an OOS student at UCs in any Federal aid you qualify for. But wait, you want to say you’re a major acting talent while applying for aid?

Don’t they determine that from your parents income bracket?

How is UCSD rank/prestige speaking? Is it a university that will be regarded highly if they see I graduated from there, or is it not even in the same ballpark as UCLA and UCB?

UCSD is still very good, and every year its prestige only increases, and are especially strong in certain fields. Today, they are just a hair under UCLA in terms of prestige, although internationally they are not as known. At this rate, I would not be surprised if in 10-20 years UCSD is just as prestigious as UCLA, or better.

Is there anything I can do at all to better my chances for UCLA? I’m willing to do anything, but I just don’t know what my options are. I’m pulling a 4.0 my last semester of junior year, but I doubt that’s enough. What can I do??
