I think my essays and recs were pretty decent…

It’s important that we know your ethnicity. You have the numbers to get in, but you are lacking in the extra curricular department. The good (and in some cases bad) thing about Brown is that admissions is very holistic. If your ECs and essays were just “pretty decent,” it will be very difficult to get in. Brown stresses the ability to write well, so if this quality isn’t seen in your essays/test scores, that will not be appealing to Brown. Did you take the writing component of the ACT? When I called the admissions office to ask about test scores, they stressed the fact that I NEEDED to take the ACT with writing, which makes me think that they do, in fact, consider the writing score in admissions. If you took it with writing, what did you get? And what was the breakdown of your ACT?

Come join all the ED applicants in the Brown forum (me included)! Good luck!

@ap012199 I did take it with the writing… it was pretty awful, I got a 26
English: 34
Science: 34
Math: 32
Reading: 33

Also, I’m Asian but not from an overrepresented country (but being asian does not work in my favor either way, even though I’d consider myself an URM)

I don’t think that they’ll reject me based on my writing skills (I did get a couple people to proofread and fixed any mistakes) but I don’t think they’re amazing essays or anything, but they’re sort of creative? I honestly don’t know how to feel about my essays because that’s honestly going to be THE deciding factor for me at most of the schools I’m applying to

That’s a good breakdown of scores, and a 26 is not a bad essay score. I don’t know anyone personally who got over a 29 on the essay portion. It will be hard being admitted as an international applicant no matter from which country you are. Just out of curiosity, from where are you applying?

@ap012199 Sorry, I should have been more clear! I’m not international haha! I live on the East Coast! I was just responding to you about my ethnicity being Asian!

Yeah as other’s said your numbers look strong and you have some extra curriculurs. Ivy leagues are those kinds of schools that its a reach for everyone but i would not say its out of your league by any means and is definitely something you should be considering. Good luck!!!
