Essays: I think they're really good, one person who was connected to brown said it was one of the best they've ever read (That person has read A LOT of essays)

Recommendations: Should be very good, the principle wrote one for me.

Also, I'm white.

School has big core curriculum, not many elective slots or APs available. Only got B's on a couple of trimester-long art/media courses in 9th grade, and 9th grade science. School is tiny, not many EC opportunities either.

If someone who used to work as an admissions officer there sent an email to the head of admissions saying to look out for my application- how much would that help? (Idk if it will)

you have a good shot. but brown’s extremely hard to get into, so nothing’s guaranteed

Your ACT score is good, but because i dont know your GPA, it is kind of hard to tell. Decent amount of EC as well, so i’d say high match/ low reach.

You look competitive for Brown, however, your GPA will really be a deciding factor.

I don’t think it will matter that much, just because of the largeness of the applicant pool and how much competition you have. But I think your chances are good. Since privates like Brown only really look at your unweighted (they don’t recalculate GPA), then you can figure out what GPA you have by seeing how many B’s you have gotten over the years, with a 4.0 being the max. Hope this helped.

Thanks for the advice! We have trimester long and full year courses, should I count both or just full year ones when calculating my GPA?

Bump.

-IPH

I think if your grades are good combined with you ACT, you definitely have a shot. I know that Brown likes the “weird” or “out-of-the-box” types, so if your essays made you seem like this type of person then that would also help a lot.

Brown is a selective school but I think you have the academics to make it! Work extra hard on your essays and let your personality show through your writing! Good Luck!!
