Hello all,

I am currently a high school senior in TEXAS looking to apply in the Aerospace or Mechanical fields in the fall. I have had some family emergencies and obligations that have impeded my ability to perform at best.

Rank: 244/625 (top 39%)

SAT: M (730), R (720), W (640) (Composite: 1450/1600) (Total: 2090) (Superscore if it applies: 2120)

SAT II: Math 2(790), Physics (620, and not retaking)

AP/Dual Credit (By the end of SENIOR year): I have only taken Pre-AP and AP courses throughout high school
AP World History
AP Physics B
AP Eng. Language
AP Calc AB
AP Physics C
AP Eng. Lit
AP Gov.
Dual Credit courses (at college): US History, Macroecon

-active member of cultural group with volunteering and running programs,
-volunteering at my local temple.
-working on PLTW Engineering Diploma (STEM courses)

You’ll be fine for most of those. UCLA is like maybe 60-40, CalTech is iffy, what with being world-class. Probably 40-60 at best, and it wouldn’t be much higher for anyone else who applied.

@TryLettingGo‌ Sorry when I meant Cal I meant UC Berk. Not Caltech. haha! :)

bump!

Thanks for chancing me earlier. I think you have a great chance at everything except ucsd, ucla and cal because those are public universities that tend to prefer in state people, and there will be quite a few instates applying there with similar stats. However, I’m not saying it’s impossible. More like ucsd being a low reach and ucla/cal being reaches.

Those are some nice extra curriculars you got there, too, along with those respectable test scores. Just the class rank and gpa might hold you back a bit, even though you had it addressed through the letters of recommendation.

I’m no expert when it comes to admissions, but I think Cal, UCLA, and GTech are reaches. The rest seem like matches/low reaches.
Hope this helps :D

Thanks guys! anyone else?? I’m willing to chance back ASAP

A&M due to strong SAT, but not sure about major. Your class rank will hurt you there, though. The others idk. UT is strict on the class rank, and your SAT is average for engineers there. Think about CAP for UT. If you are a smart, hard working kid who struggled due to family circumstances, then you should do well at a UT branch and be able to transfer.

Do apply to some other Texas schools as safeties. UT Dallas? It is an up and doing STEM school. I don’t think they participate in CAP, though.

@Lizardly‌ Yes I have applied to UTD and got in. Oh and also I am applying to Physics in the college of natural sciences as an alternate major which I think is a bit easier to get into. What are your thoughts on that?

bump!

Thanks for chancing me! Since I`m from India idk much about the GPA system but your ECs look super impresive. Why not try improving on r academic record? I think u have a great shot at SD

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Some more? I will chance back ASAP

Thanks for the chance. I think only Cal and UCLA are reaches as of now for you. The rest are in reach

@PMoney1‌ When you mean “in reach” you mean match? I hope so haha! :open_mouth:

I would say you’re quite competitive. I think UCI and UCSD are matches. Your scores for Berk and LA are within the range, but I don’t know about your GPA. Your weighted GPA looks great, but unweighted doesn’t. So maybe UCLA and UCB are low reaches.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Your SAT scores make you quite competitive (however, I’d suggest that you take Physics again). The only thing that might cause problems is your GPA. However, if you have winning essays and recommendation letters that will explain the dip in your GPA I think you’ll be fine. Another advice, try to show the colleges you are very interested in a particular program that their school offers. Most top colleges use a holistic approach to admissions. Good Luck! and thanks for chancing me. Anyone else that wants to help me please chance me:

BTW, how did you manage to get such high score on your math level 2? I’m thinking about retaking after I heard I got 700 today… I can really use some advice.

@atothez1000‌ hey! thanks for the advice! For Math 2 what I did was I used the Barron’s Math 2 book, which is significantly more difficult than the actual test itself. And I timed myself and did practice from that book over the course of two weeks or so. First time I took it I got a 650, and my score went up from just using the Barron’s book. It’s a good investment! :)

thanks for the suggestions! I will chance back! :)

Awards and activities are pretty impressive, your class rank might hurt you though! Also are u sending in the Physics SAT ii?
