seriously? your school only offers math studies? why?!?! if you were applying to the uk for the same major you’d be screwed >< but sorry, can’t help with your chances to columbia/princeton. but if it really only offers math studies, then i guess you took the most rigorous senior schedule possible.
and just wondering, if you wanted to take econ at uni, why didn’t you take it as a higher? (not much difference except for one paper plus you get college credit)

My school doesn’t offer anything higher level except for Bio, History, and English…so you’re automatically forced into those 3 classes…If I had the choice of HLs, I would do Math, Econ, and Physics…My school decided to run SL Physics and Econ at the same time
so I can’t even take both…it’s honestly bull crap -_-…but I’m predicted at 7,6,6 on my three higher levels…shockingly. loll

&& my school only offers Math Studies because the kids who typically take IB are terrible in math…but I’m also taking AP Cal, so doesn’t that help??

both of these school are crapshoots/lottery tickets for everyone, unless you have a particular hook that they are seeking–and you don’t.

I guesstimate that the average well rounded white kid without connections or hooks but with the usual excellent grades, scores, teachers and gc recommendations, and ECs that all applicants to these schools have, has about a 3% chance overall.

In other words you have as good a chance as just about every other average applicant–you obviously have a great application, it’s just that so does every other applicant. In the applicant pool for these schools, you aren’t competing against any students with a 3.2 gpa in an unchallenging curriculum with standardized test scores to match.

To increase your chances you need to make yourself stand out from the pack of applicants who look just like you–you need to give them a REASON to admit YOU.

the first gen college helps…that is usually considered a pretty significant hook. I would say that increases your chances a bit, but it will always be a bit of a lottery ticket.

You’re number 1 in the class. Have a fantastic ACT (consider whether you even want to submit your SAT), good ECs, and have taken the most challenging schedule that your school offers.

Probably there is nothing more you could have done to improve your chances at either of those schools. Your application should be competitive wherever you apply.

Beyond that, it’s a numbers game – welcome to the admissions lottery. However, be assured, you will get in to an excellent school, when all is said and done.

Holy cow, I hope you aren’t reporting all those EC’s haha…some of them are absolutely pointless (ping-pong for enjoyment?) I agree with zephyr as to chances. You did an excellent job, but there will be a lot of applicants like you so it’s difficult to say without essays.

The only reason I included ping-pong is because I plan on starting a ping pong club this year, so it was more of a reminder than anything else. loll. & yeah, i have to distinguish myself through the essay…&& do colleges consider religions like they do races? typically white-jews are the smartest, etc. you know? so does not being jewish/being italian help me or are the differences negligible?
