Recs: one from my IB History teacher will be glowing, a pretty good one from my English teacher, one from a newspaper editor I've worked with for four years

I'm a decent writer so my essays shouldn't be too shabby. I love literature so thinking of doing something with that.
I've done a lot with journalism advocacy with social media and am really into econ. That'll be my focus so I really love the Huntsman Program but don't know if I have a shot.

Want to do early, but not sure where. As of now it's between UPenn, Columbia, or Stanford. Advice appreciated!! Will chance back

You have an excellent chance pretty much anywhere you apply. You’re one of those applicants that scares me a little (I’ll be applying to a lot of those schools at the same time…) haha good luck!

what is your IB courseload?

@f0ssil: Thanks! Best of luck to you too.
@moonman: This year I took IB Econ Sl, IB Chem Sl, IB Eng 3 Hl, IB Spanish Sl. My HLs (besides English) are math and history, but I just took the AP for those subjects (APUSH and AP Calculus) as a junior. Taking HL exams as a senior.

You’ll get into most, if not all of these schools.

Sent from my iPhone using CC

Your an outstanding student. Columbia, UPenn, and UChicago would be happy to accept you .

What about Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson school for International Relations? You would be a great candidate for that. This year Princeton has brought back SCEA (restricted) and you would have a pretty darn good chance at that.

You got it all…good academics, stellar ECs w/ some major accomplishments, leadership, and a clear passion. You have a great shot at all of the schools you apply to. With your stats, I would say all those schools would be low reach/high match.

Thanks =) I’m really nervous so this makes me feel a little bit better haha

Also, I’m assuming you’re applying to Columbia’s SIPA? With the recent decreases in admissions rates at Columbia and other such schools, applying ED there could give you a great edge. Your chances are very good regardless, but if that is in fact your top choice, it would be worth it.

Thanks born2dance. Yes yes, SIPA. I’m torn between that and Huntsman. Both are great programs, but I really enjoyed studying econ this past school year. Guess Huntsman has the pull there, but isn’t it really competitive? As in moreso than Columbia’s SIPA.

What about Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson that I mentioned earlier? If you love Econ, Princeton is absolutely amazing for that. But yep all of those programs are great! Huntsman is more competitive than SIPA, but it depends on what you want in a school. I am applying to both too (though my chances are not at all as good as yours), but when visiting both schools and talking to kids who go to both, I realized they are a bit different in terms of atmosphere.

I haven’t really considered Princeton before, but after your suggestion I looked up the program and it seems equally as great… I think of the League of Nations with the Wilson namesake lol. I’m visiting these schools after I’m done with Cherubs in late July so I hope I’ll have a better feel; a website can only say so much. Thanks for the suggestions!!

Let me tell you why should consider Columbia over Princeton. I’m applying to both, but for business… What does Columbia have that Princeton does not?

New York City!!!

You can get all of these amazing business internships and jobs at major firms in New York City (the business capital of the world) such as goldman sachs and nyse whereas Princeton is an hour away in a town. More importantly, you have passion for it, so you would probably get started during undergrad studies.

Just something to consider. I’m not saying Princeton can’t open up the same opportunities. I’m only saying Columbia puts you in the middle of it all earlier so you can thrive there.

My two cents.

That’s exactly what drew me to Columbia. I love NYC!
Anyone hear anything good about the Stanford IR program?

Oh also btw, Huntsman is not International Relations. It is International Studies. If you want to do IR, you can apply to Wharton and then do an unofficial dual degree with CAS (COllege of Arts & Sciences) to also have a major in International Relations if that is what you want. :)

AHAHAHA I highly doubt I’ll get into Wharton though :(

But Huntsman is 100x as competitive. So if you want to do IR, CAS (College of Arts and Sciences) is your best bet (they have the IR major) actually, but if you also want to do business, you can apply to either Wharton or CAS. And then you’d apply within to do a double major at the opposite school.

Ohh, I was always under the impression that Wharton was super, super selective, like even moreso than Huntsman.

Nope, Huntsman is like a subset of Wharton. It’s an official combo between Wharton and International Studies (not International Relations) at CAS.
