explaining my situation? what situation? lol.

Oh woops sorry. Your essay looks really good.
But it’s still a reach.
If you want to try the other way, try to get the 1910 to at least 1950 or 2000.

ohhhh, you mean that i suck at standardized testing? well, i can’t, because 1) i’ve submitted my app and 2) they don’t want additional essays. and i think that’s sort of an excuse too…even though it’s true. i did want to explain that I can’t sit for long to take tests because i had major back surgery, but that also sounded like an excuse. but idk…should i let them know?

and i have a 1940, not a 1910. not that it matters THAT much…hm.

Columbia-Reach

Good Luck

I’d say reach mostly b/c your scores are low and Asian is ORM

but your music hook may get you in!

I know that its EXTREMELY difficult to get into the exchange but still good luck! You are definitely an original person because of your schooling background, I skimmed your essay and it looked pretty good. still its a reach but if I were you id keep my hopes up (but not too high)!

any more people wanna give their opinion?

if it’s not to late i’d reccomend retaking the sat and seeing if you can get a 200-300 point increase because a 1940 is a very bad score or if you take the ACT and score a 32ish you should have a chance.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/861721-chance-please.html

hahaha omg. yes, I know a 1940 is a bad score, which I have already stated. you don’t need to tell me that.

bump again…

Your application looks very appealing, but as everyone else is saying, those SAT scores make it a reach. Good luck

I think you have a decent chance at Columbia. And I love your photography by the way, I think they’re definitely an interesting aspect of your application. And if your supplementary recording of your music reflects how involved/awesome you are with the piano, then I think you definitely have a running chance. But this is only from looking at your EC’s. I had a friend who applied to Columbia with AMAZING EC’s (better than most I’ve seen on CC) and she was rejected outright during the ED round, largely in part to (I’m assuming) her terrible scores and grades. she was in the 30th percentile of our class and did not break 2000 with her SAT’s, and had poor scores on her limited number of AP exams.

I think people forget that FIRST AND FOREMOST you must have a good academic track, and then your EC’s should be well developed. Grades/scores are a very important factor, and that your scores are a little low for Columbia’s standards may hurt you. However, seeing that you have a strong GPA, I really can’t say if the scores will make or break you.

You already know that your SAT’s are the weakest part of your app so I won’t harp on about it, but I think you should not EXPECT an acceptance. Your EC’s and GPA work in your favor though, so I can only say you have a decent chance.

Honestly, you’re in the same position as me! Strong ECs, and great applicant, but crazy school with a crazy program. I say you have a really good shot at ANY music program which you apply to :D

if you dont consider the sat score u have a great chance. your ecs are outstanding, espescially since they are very focussed and you seem to be very good at what you do. if anything holds you back it will be the sat score. but i think the cd and the essay could greatly help you.
