strong

Weaknesses: Math SAT, SAT 2 - However, D took all honors math and this year AP Calc and Physics and has never gotten below a 90 (out of 100 point scale). Math teacher and guidance counselor has written a strong recommendation discussing that the test scores are not reflective of her ability to understand mathematical concepts taught in class.

Strengths: Strong GPA, EC's, Rigorous Courseload

Please chance:
Cornell (Human Ecology)
Northwestern
UVA
Emory
Vanderbilt

i’m a new poster, did i not give enough info on my daughter’s stats for anyone to reply?

Let’s see if I can help you out… An important factor you left out is ethnicity. Assuming she is Caucasian:
Cornell (Human Ecology): Reach
Northwestern: Reach
UVA: High Match (are you in state? if so match)
Emory: Low Reach
Vanderbilt: Low Reach

The standardized scores are very low for these schools. The ECs are solid but definitely not outstanding - especially at this tier of schools. GPA is solid but not outstanding too. I advise that she try the ACT if there’s still time. I assume she has safeties?

She is caucasian and is not from virginia.

She also is not going to take the ACT, she took it once and did not do well.

She has already gotten in to both Wisconsin and Michigan, but would like to have some other choices. Cornell is actually her first choice. Her EC’s are maybe somewhat stronger than I have portrayed. I’m hoping some of these schools will see the strength of her schedule.

Thanks for the feedback. At this point, we need to just sit back and wait to see what happens. Her essays are also fairly strong, particularly UVA and NU. Hopefully they will see past the SAT’s…

bump…

bump

i’m really looking for some feedback. i am a new poster, but hopefully i have given more info in the above posts.

PLEASE!!!

Good Luck on Wisconsin and Michigan
Cornell-Reach
Good Luck:)

thanks for responding!

any feelings on the other schools?

If your daughter was fortunate enough to be accepted to UW and UM, she should really consider herself accomplished and lucky;

I am a parent whose daughter had much higher stats and was waitlisted two years ago to both Emory and UMich; accepted to Vanderbilt… unless your daughter is a sought after minority/demographic group/ethinic group/developmental admit/etc. the other schools she is applying to are reach schools…if she has her heart set on Emory or Vanderbilt, there is an EDII option which may bump her chances up a tiny bit…but not much…

Sounds like UMich would be a great choice for her; congrats on the acceptance!!

edit: the schools you mention do not underprioritize standardized tests; her GPA is excellent as is her rigor and curriculum; so is everyone elses who applies…different schools that are of the caliber of her list may forgive the math SAT; I just don’t think this list will…

thanks for the feedback.

where did your daughter go?

last bump to get some feedback. all comments greatly appreciated.

the 590 on math kills to elite schools.
SAT math is NOT hard and colleges know that especially Cornell NW and Vandy. I wish your daughter luck, but id say very very unlikely, like 5- 10 % chances for cornell and Nw, 10-15% for Vandy and Emory. UVa is more like a 20- 25 % chance for her
